Very nice man, I really like your ride, but damn, make a old small block guy jelous all day, junkyard long block, mid 12s? Lovely. To compare, my stock lq4, heads milled .030, trex, t56, at 3450 w me in, 7.1 at 97, so a 10 mph gain over yours in the 1/8th, cam only with a manual, wish I knew what it would do with a auto, Trans brake equipped and the right converter? I cannot out shift a auto, so there is surely more to be had with a setup like yours, make sure you keep us posted!

I'm on a budget so I got the tranny rebuilt locally and they said they could include a new, stock convertor in the price. The stall is 1800-2200.

12.3 @ about 109 at the track tonight.
Was matched up against a modified 2002 Trans Am - no problem
then
Was matched up against a brand new ZR1 Corvette - PROBLEM! He must have had juice - he ran a mid 11 @ 126

Those GN's have 8.5" rears correct ?....built, they are strong as a 12 bolt.
Get an Eaton posi, some Yukon gears, and a pair of Moser axles.....all said and done.... cheaper than a Currie/Moser/other rear.

Good to see the GN pick up some more!
A 8.5 10 bolt is not as strong as a 12 bolt, but it is not much weaker.
But a cold day in hell a 640 HP supercharged ls9 cannot beat a carb only 6.0 in a car that is equil weight with competant drivers, you still gave him hell off the line!

GNCLONE, tell us more about your car. Is it stock suspension? I'd say your car runs very well in the quarter mile. Just wondering if your engine has any help.

My car is mostly junkyard parts - it is an extreme budget build.
It has the stock 7.5 rear (this is a clone car)
it has 3.23:1 gears from an early 3rd gen T/A with factory Auburn posi
it has upper control arm relocators (people call them anti hop bars)
it has Mickey Thompson 255 50 16 Drag Radials
it has a fresh TH700R4, with Corvette Servo, better bands and sun shell
very mild new converter 1800-2200
The engine has a Holley 670 single pump dual feed
an Edelbrock/MSD Performer RPM combo
Pacesetter long tubes
3" X pipe down to 2.5" dumps
165 deg thermostat
overkill fuel supply and overkill electrical system

I had an empty engine compartment for about a year, after scrapping the n/a v6.
I narrowed my choices down to a SBC 383 stroker, a Buick 455, or an LQ4/LQ9.
I did a LOT of reading/research and came to the no-brainer conclusion that everyone else here already knew - these engines make crazy power for cheap. A know a guy with a BUILT big block Chevy (big $$$) in a car similar to mine. He is not too happy that I am running faster than him

Maybe it runs where it should but I find this amazing. Gives me the itch to get started on my 69 Camaro LY6 conversion. My car is set up more as a handling cruiser than a quarter miler but this is encouraging. Hope mine runs this good!

Lucked out and found a wrecked Escalade about 20 miles from me.
The LQ9 is a bit beefier than the other 3rd gen truck motors. Better rods, higher compression.
