Default You are the weakest link....

Had some car trouble Friday night at the dragstrip. My 7.5 rear is FINE, no issues there. The motor is 100% also. It is my newly rebuilt 4L60 tranny (500 miles on it) blew the band apart. Very cool guys at the transmission shop R & R d it - all under warranty.

The trans tech didn't think the engine put out "that kind of power"

Sounds like they are good guys. Hopefully they will make this build strong enough.

He said they used "heavy duty/truck" parts - says I probably should've gone with "racing parts"

The funny thing is that EVERYONE thought that the 7.5 was going to be the weak link.

The 7.5 is suprisingly decent behind an automatic. Its the brutal launches from a T56 with a centerforce clutch and ET Streets that will kill them, lol. Ask me how I know, lol. You can use a girdled rear end cover and make some bars to pre load the axle tubes to prevent twisting or bending the axle tubes. Eric L

The 4l60, Ls models are better than a 700 by allot, they handle Ls motors from the factory and the 700 handle wimp motors from stock. But they still handle only so much.

So the 7.5 rear would last 5 minutes, or double that?

Surprisingly, i had a 7.5 that never broke, with 383 engines beating them, dont know why it never broke, but the others....well, they did. That was with a T5, and a centerforce clutch.

The thinner the teeth, 4.10s ect, those are the ones that seem to die quickly.

I had a 5 speed in a 5.0 Mustang a couple years ago. It was fun and ran high 12s, but I wanted to go with something different.

Manual pedal assemblies for G bodies are very hard to locate.

Got a guy here with a 408 t56 setup on a MCSS, idk what he used for pedals in the 6 speed swap but it is really nice.
