Default g body 6.0 build questions.Long post.First timer

So i have a stock bottom end 6.0 lq4 that im planning to put in my 81 malibu drag car. Car has a 9 inch with 4.11 gears and spool, turbo 350 built prof with a stall still to be determined. Its going to midwest converters as soon as i know what i need it to stall at for sure. Its caged and weighs about 3500 with me in it and the old iron head 355. So my questions are what will my compression be if i shave a set of 243 or 799 heads about 20 thousands. Also,is this cam a good choice,http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-190265-10 . Its on a 110 lobe sep, that people say i need for a carb app. It will also have a vic junior i think and pacesettor headers for a f body. It will be a box similar to a msd 6010 but by a new ignition company that is supposed to be released by spring. Oh and the shortblock will be rebuilt to stock specs except for the ring gaps ,i plan to open them up a little for some nitrous. Will the cam clear the stock pistons in this motor without flycutting them? And what should i set the gaps on the rings to? Also if anyone has any suggestions on the combo, let me know. Im new to ls motors,i have messed with old smallblocks for years though. One more thing it will also have a quickfuel 750 tht was sent out to a custom builder for there "blueprint" rebuild then run on my buddies car. Sorry for the long post but trying to get a good idea of if my plan is solid and what kind of power it will make. And if it wwill be a little more driveable than my old 355.

That cam will work. Any reason for not going more aggressive of a cam? Compression will be over 10:1 by a bit. 4500 converter would get my vote. Also a Trex cam would get my approval.

Looking to make it more of a street strip car and not sure on how much cam i can get into a stock bottom end motor with shaved heads. How will it drive on the street with a trex? I dont mind driving a radical car on the street.Just dont want a overheating, breaking down all the time car.lol. What kind of power do you think i could make with the cam i picked vs. a trex? And will i have need to cut the pistons for valve clearance with either cam? I have read from alot of people that you can overcam a ls so i was being conservitave. My 355 has a 244int, 254 exh, at .050 solid flat tappet and a 3600 rpm converter. And i street drove it alot.

I would say that will make a good cam for what you are wanting, and it should work good with a little spray. Going slightly conservative is never a bad thing, especially with a little nitous, let it do the work. On the rings I would go .024 for use with a nitrous. With the street driving in mind (and nitrous), I would keep the converter on the tighter side, 3600-3800, stay with a 10 inch.

My thoughts were to get the stall to around 3800 or so but make sure the builders understand that i plan to drive it more now. I might be interested in the trex but i dont want to do a 4500 stall and any lower gears than i have now. That was my reasoning for the cam choice ,and because i dont know anyone using one.

Stay with the 4.11, dont go lower. If you are running a 3 speed, you may be better with even less. I have had good luck with Howards cams.

Had a 850 holley on my 6.0 LQ9 Regal... put a 1000cfm demon on it for this spring... I ended up going with the TFS "AS CAST" LS1 2.04 intake valve head for the best PTV, velocity, and flow...

running a 240/244 613 596 109 LSA... No problems!

Next Ill be saving for a TH350 with a trans brake instead of the Glide I have in it now...

The trex holds some records for all motor. They love nitrous as well. Drove my 89 daily with it. A 3800-4000 will work fine, a 4500 is just better. Never skipped a beat.

Thanks for all the input everyone,i am kind of thinking about the trex now,but still not sure. The good thing is i have a little time because it like 28 degrees here now so not gonna be out for a while. lol. I really want to put my 3.70 gear back in but will have to wait and see what i decide on the cam for sure. Oh and onthe carb its a legal 750 for mean street that i bought from a buddy that im sure flows way more it just fits the plug they use to measure it. Its been in the 9 sec range on a 4 valve mod motor in mean street trim so i know it enough for my motor.lol.

The spray will help the carb size, you should be fine. What group are you running mean street with? I've run super street, mild street and outlaw 8.5 with NMCA Osca and OSM over the years.

So i found a set of 243 heads off a newer 5.3 and also maybe some 799 heads from one also. Will the valves be the same size as the 6.0 or ls2 heads? And i am thinking of using s-k speed for my parts i need to buy,who do i get in touch with there?

Ok so i think i found a deal today.A guy i work with has a set of lingenfelter ported 241 ls1 heads with double valve springs installed with low low miles and wants 450.00 for them. He claims they flowbenched just a tad under 300 cfm at .600 lift with a 3.9 bore plate.Do these sound like a good deal? I am going to take them to a friend/machineist that ports heads and have them looked at to make sure ther is no problems and the porting looks solid.

Also i get the pushrods he ran with them.Dont remember the length.I do know they are comp cams. And he claims they are cut to 59 cc. Is that about a .020 cut on a set of these? Am i going to have to get the intake shaved to fit on these? It will be a vic jr.

Sounds like a good deal to me, and no, we have shaved .040 and had no issue with a Vic jr lining up.
