Building a Stroker 383 or 408 ?
I figured out this week that I'm gonna build a stroker, I have an LS-1 w/ TEA stage 1.5 (862) casting heads. I wanna get this done fairly quickly! (Summer doesn't last long in Western NY) I can do a 383 with my block or try & find a 6.0 & do a 408. I talked w/ Josh at TSP & he thinks w/ the weight of the car & what I use it for that there won't be alot of difference. The car is a 1923 Ford T-bucket that weighs about 2000 lbs & will be a street car that occasionally races whatever pulls up next to it...lol TSP will custom spec a cam for me but I see alot of guys on here us Patrick G. Anybody know where I can find a 6.0 that will work? Also, do you think there is a big difference where you have the cam spec'd? Also, any thought on 383 vs 408?

Yeah, weighing 2000lbs i couldnt see a big difference between the two engines.
I would tear down the LS1 block and if the cylinders are ok and just need a Hone, i would use the block that you have & save $$$. Buy the time you buy a 6.0 block + shipping and bore/hone, that would pay for a Lunati 4.00 stroke Voodoo crank. 769$ shipped on Ebay. Just my 2 cents worth.

The 4 inch bore in a 6.0 stroked will take more advantage of the cylinder heads. Either way, if you are not serious and not needing every bit of power, then a 383 is fine. Use what you have I say. Pat G is damn good for the EFI guys. But Martin at tick has been making damn sure us carbed guys are taken care of. He had made us some off shelf grinds and specs custom grinds for guys like you all day. Pat G will give you specs but Martin gets them ground and shipped. Either would get you taken care of but Martin gets my vote. I could not be happier with all he has been doing for us.

I run a 383 and th400 in my 2000 Z-28 I run 7.70'sin the 1/8th mile still working timing and fuel bugs out but I have a buddy that's got a 408 and th400 and he runs 7.60's tuned. Only difference is my car weighs 450-500lbs less than his. So 383 gets my vote since you already have the block and on cam TSP can get a custom grind to your door in about 3-5 days they had mine to me in 3 days from Comp Cams.

My 7.7 is in 4400ft da what's yours? It will go faster but with the crap air we have in west texas (odessa) it takes awhile to get it just right at the track and we have limited test n tunes.

With a spun bearing I would make sure they line hone the mains and check them, I bought a 2001 aluminum block about 4 years ago that had spun rod bearing and one of the main bores was out of spec, I only paid $150 for it but I was pissed.
