Default First trip to the track

Hey guys,

Over the winter I completed a LQ4 swap into my 79 Malibu. I was a bit hesitant at first whether to use the carb off my old 406 sbc or stay with the fuel injection that came with the 6.0....but now that its all done, and thanks to all the info on this site....I am more than satisfied that I carbed it.

It's got a TH350, Ford 9in w/4.10 gears, 750 mighty demon carb, Vic Jr intake, MSD 6010 box, and 275/60 MT drag radials. Recently took it to the track for the first time this year...ran a best of 11.83 @ 109.97

Besides the carb, headers, and intake, the 6.0 is bone stock. I just cant believe how good it runs. Entered all my info into one of those drag calculators, and it says I have around 360-370 hp at the crank.

Thanks again to all the info on here...I couldnt have done it without.

Thanks!

With me in the car...weight is around 3150

Convertor is a Hughes 3000 stall

I had to play around with the accelerator pump squirters for awhile to get rid of the lean bog, but with .40 front and back, and pink cams on the 2nd hole it works good now.

Nice work! Cam and bigger converter time! We went 11.58 with a similar car. Torqer v2 cam, 3600 converter with 3.73s. That was one pass. Didn't know he pulled timing way back and it had a small 650 vac sec.

The car is running great for what you have but I think it might be laying down up top. Your 1/8th mile ET and MPH show that it should be running around 11.50s@114.
I wonder if its the tune, the motor? or is the 410 gear to much for the stock cam? I bet it would pick up a ton with just a cam change.

I noticed the same thing. I just chalked it up to weak HP #s. It would scream with a cam swap up top, but the 3000 rpm stall would most likely kill the 60 ft with the powerband shift that comes with a fatter cam.

I think its the stock cam/valve springs....she doesnt like to go over 6000. I think over the winter I will see about a camp swap.
