First time start. Absolutley no OIL PRESSURE
Been working for 7 months every minute Ive had a chance on my hot rod. Today was the big day for a test run. I was pumped. The motor probably didnt turn over more than 2 times and it fired right up. Immediately I heard the lifter chatter and was expecting that. Looked at the mechanical gauge and had no pressure at all. Shut it off. Unhooked the gauge at the back of the intake to see if some oil would come out when I was cranking it and got nothing. Not even a drip. A little back ground on the motor. 2003 LQ4 suppose to have 50,000 miles on it. I milled the heads .030 put in a new cam, lifters, pushrods, springs, Vic Jr., Holley 750 DP, 6010 MSD. Against my better judgment I left the original oil pump. I just got back with a new Meilling oil pump. If thats not the problem all it could be is a spun bearing, right? Any input would be great because I was sick at my stomach after I shut it down. Do yall think any damage could have occured? Probably ran less than a minute between 2 starts trying to see if it would build pressure.

Ran it about 45 seconds. Between 2 starts. Trying to see if it would build pressure. Only thing I done was put the cam in. Just put the cam in with Rotella motor oil and put all the lifters in a bowl and soaked them in oil. I had the motor on an engine stand when I took the pan off just to inspect everything. Im sure I didnt hurt the O ring. Ive got the oil pump off of it now and the o ring looked good. I didnt use a new o ring when I put the stock pump back on.

That sucks. Hope the pump fixes it or you. Definitely get a new ring if it doesn't have one. I bought one of these

Also try priming the oil pump, I had to pour oil down my oil sending unit spot to get it to take off. But watch out, if it does go it goes a lot! So crank it over without the coils hooked up.

Yeah I hook my gauge up to the top of the engine just behind the valley cover on the back side of the engine. It shot oil all over but the smile of knowing my new melling pump was working was worth it lol.

Just finished up putting in a brand new Melling oil pump and o ring. Still nothing. I poured oil down the hole where the gauge goes to try and prime it. Cranked the motor for about 10 seconds to see if it would squirt some out. Didnt. I decided to start it one more time just to see if it would go. Ran it about 10 seconds. Nothing. Any ideas? Yall think it has a spun bearing? Where can I find a good deal on short block? Im broke. I allowed $10,000 for this project and thats shot to hell.

Did that oil bypass barbell thing get replaced or put on right? Even with a spun bearing it will still pump oil. Especially out if the oil sensor plug, that all before the bearings.

It was there. I didnt replace it. It has a new oil filter, should I try another one. How long do you think it would take for it to pickup the oil and show pressure with a new pump. I let it run about 10 seconds.

I wouldn't run the engine, just crank it over. Maybe look into one of those oil priming tanks or make your own. My melling picked up oil really fast after I primed it but as I recall it didn't pick up right away either. You have oil in the pan right? Stupid question but I had to ask. Try taking the oil filter off, it won't hurt anything but just rule out a blockage there.
