Default First time out

New here, been reading awhile.
Thought I would post my set up.
1991 s10 reg cab short box.
been working on it for a few months. Bone stock carbed 5.3 160,000 miles from junkyard, th350 trans 2800 stall, welded 10 bolt with 4:10s. 275/50R15 drag radials.
I got about 20 miles on it before I took it to the track. I got 4 passes in with the best of 8.52 at 81mph 1.92 60ft, spinning out the hole. gotta say i was happy with the time, havent done any real tuning yet, once i get her to hook and get some tuning on the carb I am hoping to be around 8.2. going back on the 14th so ill give an update.

Yup, these engines made me never look back at the old sbc. I don't have to build jack. Cam it and stuff it between the fender wells.

Well got an update. Been back to the track a couple times. Was hoping for 8.2 1/8th mile but didnt get there. second time to the track didnt make any improvements. really just played with the timing. Just got back from the track today and was able to run 8.37, 8.38, 8.38-1.88 60ft. 82 MPH. Then eliminations start. dialed in 8.38. first run. stumbled bad off the line and ran 8.66. Looked over the carb before loading on trailer and the rear bowl is full. Ive had a problem with the rear float on this carb before and need to tear into it. think its loading up on fuel. Over all happy with the time. did weigh the truck and comes in at 2950 with me in it. Thanks again to Zone posting the tread that told me about the vac leak I had. I am sure this is where i picked up the .15. This same truck had a sbc built by someone else. about $3000 into motor and ran 8.50s also ran my dad in a grudge race 1973 malibu with 468 BBC. his best time 8.52. Again this is a stock 5.3, 160000 miles out of a rolled 2000 silverado. Cleaned it, shoved it in the truck, intake, carb, msd, beat it down!!!

Im 180. car weighs 2750 without me in it, didnt weight the car with me in it but figured me with steel toe boots and a helmet should be 2950. I am happy with the weight of the car. Will work on getting some pics up, the car is not gutted but no inner fenders, no heater system, Alum radiator, no sway bar, interior is mostly there, man windows, running weld prostars. thats it for weight reduction still has the stock rear bumper with a 2" ball.

I'm gutted, big gas tank, 85 corvette wheels, no inner fenders, th400, iron block 6.0, that's about it and I weighed 2800 with no driver so your 2750 sounds right and I'm jealous haha. I wanted mine down to 2700 but I got 180#+ in gas but my setup worked ok at the track with a best (before they gave me the boot) was 7.387 @ 96 mph. Your doin awesome for a stock engine that's for sure! I gotta get me some pro stars and my rear end done! Ill be watching for pics!

mine has stock tank but I think its 13 gal. was weighted with half tank. I read that you broke your rear end. I havent broke mine yet but already have a 8.8 posi out of an explorer that i am going to build over the winter. Also racing is done for me for the year. winter is coming. was 37 the last few nights. gonna pull the motor and trans plan on cam and some head work. some work on the trans and build the rear end. also build some cal tracks. i want to drive it to the track next year, but dont want to spend the money and time on a cage yet so looking at get close to 7.5. I think a cam springs and some head word will do it. I do have a LQ4 long block in the garage also but saving that for another project. Maybe.
