Yea, that makes sense because you have 2 kinds of people that tune cars:
People that are smart and good at it
People that are not smart and think they know that their doing
So mixed reviews sounds right. 1cdub picked up .1 out of the box and was already hitting 9s. That's a big increase for a carb swap when your already single digits.

my good buddy Jason from PA Racing sent me this for testing purposes. it's a 900 cfm carb. he just had me cover shipping charges. such a nice guy to send this halfway across the country just for me to play with it for a month and send it back. it won't go with the purple well, but it'll give me a good gauge on what direction to take for the next purchase.

put the new carb on yesterday. i pulled it apart to look at jets, powervalves, squirters, air bleeds, etc. i won't go into details about what's in it cause it's a custom carb for someone else. just doesn't seem right to divulge that info, but i needed it to see what the baseline was.
i will say, that it's calibrated much more conservatively than i figured. it also has some holes drilled in the butterflies, which really cleaned up the idle, but i think the holes are too big, or too many (1 in each butterfly) thus my idle won't go lower than 1500 now, lol. but it gives me some ideas for my new carb.
yesterday we were working on some other things around the house and had to take a load of yard waste to the dump. That reminded us that the county recycle center has a set of scales. off the trailer the cars came, i put the new carb on and made some adjustments, and off to the scales we went.
we were rewarded with some awesome numbers too. his car weighs 3220 with him in the car, that's ~2970 without him. he was running over a 1/2 tank of fuel and we still have one door to gut. pretty sure he could be at 3200 or less with just a few things here and there. if he went to real drag brakes, aluminum heads, tubular k-member, etc etc etc i could see it being sub 3000.
my car weighed in at 3260 with me in the car, which means it's ~2985 without me. i too was running over a 1/2 tank and i still need to gut both doors. me personally, i'm down 40lbs and have another ~50 i want to to lose. with drag brakes and an aluminum center section and a little bit more trimming here and there, another 100lbs out of the car should be possible as well.
the trip was about 10-15 miles round trip. both cars acted basically like any stock car would. chucky reported 200-210 coolant temps and never got over 3000 rpm, even when running 65-70. i thought that was great considering the car is running a 35gpm electric water pump. my car crept up to 195 when we were waiting in line at the scales, but was 175-180 cruising. i saw the oil temps rise on mine to 180ish, but nothing to be alarmed about. i LOVE cruising

i got a roll bar, 9" with iron center, heavy ls1 front brakes, etc.
if i can get rid of another 50lbs out of the driver's seat, do the drag brakes f/r and get the aluminum center section, i bet that's easily 100lbs. still need to get a matching kirkey for the passenger's seat too.
also, is your 3150 with you in the car? i know you're not a small guy either.

Lol, the RS was 3150 without my ogre *** in the seat. The mustang is like 3000 with me in it, I think, was 3060 before I ditched the 17s for 15" drag pack and glass hood, also removed all impact bars so it might be sub 3k with me in it. My 4L80 got finished today so that's +50lbs but gotta love OD. Going to 4.10s will help over these 3.73s.

Had a great day yesterday! almost didn't go cause of the threat of rain. glad i did. seems the car really responded well to the larger carb. it only picked up about 1 mph, it went 130.9 fastest yesterday, 130.03 fastest last time out, but it did seem to help the first 330' feet. passes went like this: 10.77, 10.63, 10.56, 10.66 (ran it at 20* more h2o water temp, didn't like that), 10.61 (on the brakes, first round win), 10.57 second round with a -.006 redlight.
this thing just keeps getting more awesome, lol. it got a ton of attention yesterday too. pictures and videos:

Very nice! Doesn't look like you slipped the clutch on the 10.5 pass.
That's the reason I sold my th400 to go with the 80 and a real converter, hope to have the 4.10s on soon too, because I should not have a problem hitting the 60 your heavier car is. It's been the one thing to **** me off knowing I should 60 harder. But at least I know why.

best thing i've done so far: break the 2-step function of the msd box.
a couple of observations. with the 2-step function i left with the gas on the floor and dumped the clutch. this smacks the tires hard and is very inconsistent. lights are all over the place and no telling if it will do a standing burnout or accelerate
without the 2-step, i'm using throttle position to hold the rpm...right at 6K or so. because of this i'm not on the floor so when i let the clutch out, i'm going WOT at the same time i'm letting the clutch out so it ends up being some sort of pseudo slip/accelerate thing, lol. whatever it is, it's working like a champ...the result is repeatability and FAST, lol.
i have at minimum another 30lbs to pull out (doors). we'll see if i can find any more weight.
