New school, I could fab up some stuff but the point was to save time and not worry about that.
The headers, both, say they work for T56, clearly the idiots mounted a T56 or just looked at one and said "yup, it's smaller, must fit", forget the whole clutch thing evidently.
But:
Still close but I got it further. Some header wrap should keep the temps out of the master.
Get to keep the AC now:
Found that the 2.8 liter pulley and grinding on the back right bolt on the power steering box will allow for the truck accessories. Some line bending/adapters will be called for:
So, the guy at autozone have me a damper install tool, it won't work. Go figure.

If youll look at the ones I bought, the tube that wraps around the steering shaft is the 2nd tube back not the third. Just sayin lol.

The innovative brand of cheap *** headers I bought would suit this project perfectly, with a slight modification to the collector size. Mine are 2.5 inch, but I am sure a muffler shop could open them up gently to 3 inch.
Give me a few minutes and I will find a picture of them on my truck.

two pictures of them installed.
You do have to remove the steering shaft to install them. I also kept the original pulley on my 5.3 for power steering. Just took some adjusting of the transmission mount for clearance.
but with you going with a stick instead of an auto, your mounting angle will be different than mine.
This set of headers only cost me $216 shipped to my door. There are several vendors with the exact same headers for sale ranging from $189.99 to $250+ for the exact same thing. Easiest way to tell is the passenger side header design.

I do to. They get a bad rap though. Have read a lot of fitment issues on some, but I basically just built the mount setup around the headers so it all fits. Motor was in and out a few times, but it was worth it.

I'm pissed about the fact they say they work with a t56, both sets. Then there wan no pent ion that I would not clear the AC box.
That's just a waste of people's time. Total BS. When I ran the hedman full lengths from hedman headers, I came in knowing they would not work on my T5, this is different.
Just glad I can beat on the mud lengths and make them work. Beating on 350$ is more acceptable than the 550$ set.

Yeah they will. Remove the 2 front bolts of the cab and lift the cab up about 4-5 inches, should give you room to get it maneuvered in and not have to disconnect brakes or remove steering shaft. anything farther than that and you might have to.
I got the turbo 400 in that way with the H3 pan on my 5.3..

Let's see, 2 minutes removing 2 bolts and loosening 2 more, then 2 minutes with a jack and a piece of wood....... OR...... Wrestle with a heavy *** transmission from underneath and have to jack it up, bashing knuckles and head and other body parts on both truck and person???
What the **** was I thinking?? Of course pain and misery and soreness is more rewarding??
Hey knucklehead!!!!! This is not an S&M sex shop of fantasies!!!! Do like I said and save yourself a ton of hassles!!!

Let me put it to you this way.. I am even considering the disassembly of the front end again to NOT have to wrestle with all the horseshit of wrestling the trans up from the bottom end... That is how much I hate trying to get one installed from the bottom without a car lift and a trans jack and about 3 friends..

This would be perfect for this project.. for me at least...

I am 6'2, 315 lbs, a little ol 125 pound Trans is nothing special to get in from the bottom. It is easy to me. Now a bulky automatic, I cannot get in the same fashion.
Not to mention, with my luck the cab thing would go wrong and **** me off.

well, you do it whichever way you are going to do it. I have done it the "wrong" way by lifting the cab with the "bulky automatic" and it worked great. Saved be having to wrestle that thing in by myself. And I am 6'4" and 470, but in my old age things that never used to bother me are now feeling like lifting a mack truck..

Like I said, lifting an automatic is different. If mine was a 4L80, I would surely consider your way. Those suck to wrestle with a jack. At 470 lbs I don't know if I could fit under my truck with the jack stands. Lol,y belly already rubs if I don't get a jack under it.
