Default Carb trouble

Hey guys, i have a carb swapped 5.3, edlebrock i take, msd ignition, and a quick fuel slayer 750, i had the engine running great with an edlebrock carb (i was just using gravity to feed the fuel to the carb, no pump) now i plumbed my fuel system with an eletric pump, pressure reg (set at 6.5 psi as per quick fuel), and put the slayer on it. The problem im having is when i crank the engine to start it it starts back firing through the intake and the exhaust, and i mean spitting alot of fuel out the carb, then sometime it will randomly start up and idle for a few seconds (back firing like a sun of a gun while its idleing) and then it will spit fuel out if the carb again and it will stall, now i tried putting the old carb back on and thats doing the sane thing. Do you guys have anyideas?

I dont beleive so the carb is brand new, i adjusted the floats down thinking it was just too much fuel with them set in the middle and they seemed to move freely

If it is new, I highly recommend taking the bowls off and inspecting for any trash that could be in the needle and seat. Is there fuel dripping from the boosters while the pump is on and the engine is off?

Backfiring through the carb could be a bum cam sensor.

Ok maybe if it a little warmer tomorow ill pull the carb back off and break it down (it felt like the 20's here today), @pop n wood, it will still start up sometimes with a bad cam sensor? It starts sometimes but only for a couple seconds and then blows furl out if the carb again

If you don't find anything else obvious, pop a new set of plugs in it. When I first put my car my car together the mixture was too rich and it fouled the plugs. It backfired like crazy.

Is the gas good in the tank ?

Lower your fuel pressure to 5.5psi. and see if that helps with the Edelbrock carb.(thays all they like)
The QF could have a bad/torn gasket at the power valve (easy to do) and let fuel dump into the intake also ?

BUT, since it does it with both carbs...could be a sensor also
Try the Elddy carb again with lower pressure first ?

Hey quick question where did you pull your power ground and 12 volt key on for your fuel pump? Reason I as is I have seen voltage drop and bad grounds cause these kinda symptoms with electronic ignitions. I doubt a cam sensor went bad overnight not saying it didn't happen but to run fine with the gravity fed eddy then crap out with the slayer on a new pump and regulator I am curious as to where you pulled your power and grounds. Also maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean when you said you adjusted the floats down. To me I think you just raised the fuel level in the bowls or did you raise the floats and lower the fuel level.

Still having the same problem, i am now on a brand new 6010 and its still shooting fuel out of the carb, whoskeyboy my power is coming from a painless fuse block that also powers my fuel pump (one 12v sources going to the block and they a signal from the ignition switch that activates a relay to switch power to the block) my ground is grounded to the block that also has a wire that goes straight to the battery

Where is the fuel shooting from? If its from the vents, its a stuck float. NEVER NEVER EVER say, its a new carb, it has to be clean. As previously stated, you'd **** at what ive found inside new carbs. Eric L

Its shooting right out of the top, i no longer have that new carb on it, i gave it to my brother who bolted it on his 351c and it started right up and runs great (his motor obviously needs more fuel than mine but i thought it would atleast let my car start) now i have a good ol' double pumper that i "borrowed" off my dads sbc that also runs very well. Do you think it could be because of how i have the power to my 6010 wired?

No ignition will cause fuel to shoot from your carb. I think you had something stuck in the needle and seat.

Yeah, that does read a little confusing now that I look at it. Ignition will not cause fuel to shoot out of the carb. How could it? It was probably the needle and seat. Sounds like the car is running well now, so its all water under the bridge. Eric L
