ann vs dogleg boosters
was planning an quick fuel q series 850 with dog leg. i can get a quick fuel q-series 850 annular used for $300.
it would be a savings of about 325 over a new dogleg style quick fuel carb.
from what i understand, the ann boosters are better for part throttle and dog leg is better for WOT? 325 is a good savings in my book, but the carb looks like it has been around the block. nowhere near as pretty as the carbs on their website lol.
can an ann booster carb be converted to dogleg? i dont want to miss out on a deal if i need to jump on it.

I like the annular boosters better than dog legs anyway. That's what Im running on my SBC 406 in the first gen. I saw an article in CC a few years back and on a fairly hot BBC, they picked up 96!!!ft lbs at 3500 with the annular boosters. The top end charge was almost a wash. You will most likely get better drive ability with the annular setup without loosing any ET. Just been my experience.

Hey TX, my vote is to try out the annular carb, and if you don't like it; sell it and buy new. Newschool I think this is the article you were talking about. Except it wasn't a big block, it was a carb'd LS1!! While the annulars perfromed slightly better on the TOP of the curve, the real surprise was the 94lbft gained at 1800RPM to the the improved response and fuel delivery.

I'm running a used and rebuilt 750 Demon on my 5.3 and the last paragraph of this article really caught my attention about sending the carb back to Barry to get an Annular swap for $100! Since I am running a 750 I could stand to lose a few CFM in the name of extra low-down grunt! HHHMMM, I think Mr. Barry Grant is going to be getting a carb with a $100 bill taped to it this winter!

You probably can't go wrong with a deal like that.
But do not take that car craft article as gospel. There are numerous articles calling into question the conclusions stated in that one. That one has been around awhile.
Try a search. The topic has been discussed many times on here with some pretty good advice about when to use which.

i just talked to quick fuel. they recomended a q series 850 dogleg or a 950 annular. to have it sent to quick fuel to be tumbled and brought back to new condition will be around 250. i'm going to make a stupid low offer and see if he accepts. if he doesnt, i'll let it go and keep pinching pennies for a new carb.

i have a Bill Mitchell 950 annular on my 461 BBC and it has performed better than any carb ive ever had on it. ive tried standard holley 4150, demon, and an edelbrock and the annular 950 was ***** to the wall over any of the rest!! it drives, cruises, idles and performs flawless in any conditions. i say go for it.....

so how can I tell the difference between annular and dogleg? this one only has 1 hole going to the bootom of the booster.
front squirter doesn't squirt, ****...I don't even know how to tell if this thing is a 650 or 850. it seems like he may have misrepresented it a little, or didn't know exactly what he had.

I cannot find a number ANYWHERE on this thing which is annoying as ****.
so I did it the hard way. i'm assuming it is a q series 850 race. it only has one large discharge nozzle inside of the boosters. this is a GOOD thing! the ultimate plan is a 200-250 shot of nitrous and quick fuel said 850 dogleg or 950 annular. I wanted an 850 dogleg for the nitrous.
I'm assuming it is an 850 based on the port size on the base plate. got on summit to find the 750 and 850 baseplate dimensions. only 1/16 difference between the 750 and 850. not much at all! anyways 750 is supposed to be 1 11/16 (1.688) and the 850 1 3/4 (1.75). the base plate measured out to 1.75 according to my calipers so i'm happy about that.
the primary squirter doesn't squirt. and the bowls filled over the sight glass at 7psi fuel where he told me it was already set for 7.5 psi. I tried starting the truck and about 30 seconds into it I gave up. once turning the key to the off position, I could hear fuel pouring into my intake...
he said other than the idle screws and idle rpm screw were the only ones touched. I almost want to open it up to check, but I cant find dick where quick fuel tells what they come stock with.
here is the best pic I could get from the bottom of the booster. doesn't look annular to me.
the top side. there is a bit of oxidation in the aluminum. the anodized parts look fine. you can tell that someone banged on the bowls with a hammer once upon a time. they knocked some dings in the bowls and scratched up the quick fuel stickers. still not a bad deal for $220 I guess?

Stuck needle & seat assembly most likely if it's pissin' fuel into the intake. Or your fuel pressure is too high. And yep, those are dogleg boosters. That 850 baseplate leaves you options. You can upgrade the main body and have a 1050 cfm carb if you wanted.

fuel pressure is a hair under 7psi. it worked fine for the holley that I sold off of the motor. needle/seat it must be.
I think I'm going to send it to quick fuel and have them rebuild it, tumble it and put new stickers on it so it will be like new. should only cost me about $200. i'll have 420 into a 625$ carb. they can also check to make sure the jets/metering blocks/etc are factory set. I pulled an air bleed and couldn't find a stamp on it anywhere...there isn't a single part stamp on this carb that I have found yet. frustrating.

Look at this page about half way down is pics of my newr 950 main body Q series with annular boosters.

If you let QFT set it up for your car it will be dead on and run great, I'm sure.
