Default Getting Ready For the Cooler Weather

Getting a few things done for track time:

New ring and pinion, seals, bearings and HD pinion yoke.

Next up, go through brakes and freshen them up.

I'm hoping to catch a track day with good weather for some new bests.

What gear ratio are you going with?

Same 3.90 ratio. The gear that was in it always had a whine in it and the pinion yoke needed replaced, so it was just time.

i'm surprised you're running a 10 bolt still...also surprised it doesn't have a spool.

Lol, considering the had thoughts about a 6 speed, I bet that would also cost him a rear end over time.

Nah. That is racecar stuff. This is just a street cruiser.

Got it done today. So nice to be rid of the rear howl. And, I got rid of the driveline vibration I have had since I built the car. My pinion yoke was fubar. Now I can cruise at any speed I want, smooth as can be. It will make the 150 mile round trip drive to the track a whole lot more pleasurable.

while i get what you're saying, the safety aspect of a bottom 10 second capable car on a posi or locker type differential has my shy away from them. having seen a posi or locker push the car all over the track, unlike a spool that's locked solid. keep it in mind if you start feeling the car getting looser as that posi wears in.

You would just shake your head if you saw my car. No bars. No harnesses. No real clues as to what this car is capable of other than the long wheel studs on the back. It is not really a race car. I drive it to the store, to my tennis matches, 150 mile round trip to the drag strip and pretty much every chance I get. It has excellent street manners and driveability and is pretty quiet. I seldom run the nitrous. Just an occasional glory pass.

My old "big 10" has been holding its own so far. Hopefully that trend will continue.

LOL. I have seen that done numerous times. It held up every time, but it was not pretty.

i wanted to do it to my s10, but the turning radius on a s10 is already terrible. a damn school bus can turn tighter.

Got some adjustable lower control arm brackets to see if I can get the car to take a little more juice on the hit:

I am not sure if the car will like more anti-squat or not, but we will see. I think I will also lower it about an inch in the back to see if it likes that too.

The adjustable control arm brackets are in:

I have them on the middle setting and you can definitely feel it lift. It kind of reminds me of an old Coronet 500 I used to race for Anclote Auto Parts back in the day. The whole car used to lift. It was a fun car to race.
