Default Suggestions :The right combo for my lq4 chevelle

I've had my Chevelle apart a few years now ( since roasting the cam in the 454) I decided to take a jump in the LS world. I have a 05 lq4 that currently has a tu1 turbo cam and a set of pac 1218 springs in the factory 317 heads but I'm not sure that would get me to my goal , I just want a fun street toy that can pull a low 12 high 11 . The car is a stock body all steel car it has a 12 bolt with 3:31 gears and a built th400 with a 3000 stall ( didn't wAna go much higher because of the rear being 3:31)sitting on 28" Mickey drag radials. I have a set of 243 heads laying on the bench I picked up a year ago that I could install also , just curious as to what combo or suggestions you guys think would help me achieve my goal instead of me throwing ( expensive ) parts at it and it not working right . So if there is a specific cam and carb you'd go with that's what I'd like to know . I know I need a msd 6010 for spark . Thanks in advance !

The 317's and the 243's flow pretty much the same, but the 243's will give you a little more compression(Roughly 10.2 to 1). Getting a custom cam ground to match your setup will help tremendously. Stepping up your rear axle gears would help too, even if you went to just 3.73's, but you could see how she runs with just the engine modifications first.

Both the LQ4 and LQ9 make good power with very little modification. Before installing a custom cam in my LQ4, my car went 11.90's with the engine bone stock other than the carb and headers. I'm assuming your Chevelle is a few hundred pounds more than my car, but you shouldnt have a problem breaking into the 11.90's especially if you add the 3.73's.

When I first built my car I had a LQ9 with ported LS6 heads, Performer RPM intake, Holley 750 mechanical secondary and a 222/224 cam on 112+2. With a 3000 stall, 3.90 gears and a 28" tall tire, it went 11.70s @ 113 @ #3750. It idled smooth and drove like a near stock vehicle. It was a really great, no sacrifice, street cruiser combo. It would slightly outrun a friends built 454 Nova street car.

Funny tigger , I just stumbled upon your video of that setup on YouTube . That's good motivation for me right there , I guess I should be able to pull mid to low 12s with my combo using suggested parts .

What's your opinion on the pro form mechanical 750 carb? Sk has an entire package for $1079 that includes a Vic jr ,6010 and that carb .

i have a 05 LQ4 also in my 71 chevelle. i went with 821 rect port heads, vic jr,custom cam,3500 stall,3.73 gears,27'' tall street radials.a little over 3700 pounds with me in it. fastest I've gone is 11.95 but I'm still tuning. i shift at 7000 and cross finish line at 6700rpms. you can easily get in the high 11s consistently. i have pretty mild cam and didn't flycut pistons.

Do you want a Hotrod lopey idle or do you want a smoother idle with optimum drivability?

On the carb, with your converter and rear gear, I would stay with the 750.

I like a nice lope but also like it to drive good so I guess somewhere in between and also don't want to fly cut Pistons or anything , I'm going to stay with the 750 as suggested but il still go with the Vic jr intake.

If you are planning 3.73 gears in the future, I would get this cam for sure:

Runs great. It's perfect on the street. Runs good at track ,11.95et. True dual exhaust no crossover. 40 series flow masters. The cam speedtigger recommended looks like a winner. Maybe u got lucky and your 05 lq4 has the better ly6 pistons.
