Default Launch issues

Most tracks near me are over 2 hours away so I've been testing down a back road and have it hooking pretty good. Been tuning the caltracs and shocks since switching to the ford 9" and I've been impressed. On launch though it goes rich then straight to lean really quick. I know I'm leaving a little power there. Also at the top of first gear, around 6,000-6,500, it lays over on me but as soon as I shift to second it's fine and runs like a raped ape. I am running the carb in my sig with 33 pump nozzle and the pink cam in #1 position. I have experimented with cams but pink seems to be the best. Should I be running jet extensions as well? My stall flashes to about 4,200 so 1st gear is run through very fast. Th350, 92 reg cab sierra maybe 4,000 lbs, 3.89 gears. I want to get this ironed out before I mess with the nitrous. Thanks

You should be running jet extensions and the notched float for sure.

Ok I'll get them and put them on this weekend. Any suggestion on maybe trying a different squirter?

You could probably mask it with more pump shot but the fact it goes rich and then lean makes me think your basic mixture is off. You are probably running lean and have too much shot too quick and it is running out.

Guessing you have a wideband, does it record? What do your AFR's look like as you move up in RPM. If it goes lean before 3000 RPM or so than you might need to adjust your idle feed restrictors and/or idle air bleeds. Lean at higher RPMs means the main circuits need bigger jets/smaller main air bleeds.

what jets size are you running? how lean is it going? In my experience with my own vehicle you may not have enough carb for the motor, on my 346 a 750 was to small I ended up in the mid 90's with the jets to get the right A/f mix then put a 850 on it and made minor adjustments to get the air fuel right.

Yes I have a wide and but no data logger ( need to get one). Jetting is mid 80s I am getting a new carb now. The quick fuel I have is vac secondaries and I just can't seem to get this thing dialed in. Going to a mechanical secondaries which I should probably be running anyways. Yes I have fuel pressure gauge and it's good.

I have to highly agree wth the jet extensions. Get those and the floats before you do anything else and then see what happens. I had my car cut out flat dead and recover before I did those with my manual car years ago.
