5.3 going in
fitted up
motor full in
special thanks to 89tang for allowing me the use of his cherry picker.
fired up for the first time and had a bad exhaust leak. tightened up exhaust manifold and cleared it up. took it for a drive to go get gas and ran like absolute ****. threw a cel and pulled up as P0200 injector relay. ended up 2injectors were unplugged(#6 and #8).

Looks Good!
And it's also a cheap alternative to rebuilding the LS1. Those 5.3L's are still plenty powerful and can make plenty of power with ported heads, FAST or LS6 Intake, a cam, Headers, and especially when boost is thrown into the mix.
Congrats, and post some track times if you get any. I'm kinda curious as to what it will do with the Turbo'd 5.3L in there. I bet it still runs almost as hard as the LS1!

I swapped a 5.3 into mine and a small cam and HOLY CRAP! it rocks, stock heads with 918 springs an 7.4 PR the cam is a 218 218 .563 .563 on a 114 lsa After tuning it put down 335hp and 320 tq. I love it because its a iron block and there is much more I can do with it. You cant tell by looking at it. Drivability is great power is great it pulls to 6300rpms and sounds amazing. Im never going back to an aluminum block.

What is your problem?
I had a LM4 in my Camaro. I got it new (t/o with only a couple of k's on it) for 500 dollars. You couldn't get the same deal on a LS1 with those miles on it. It didn't have a bit of rust on any part and I put tons of miles on it with regular 130hp nitrous shots anytime I wanted. The new owner is doing the exact same thing to this day and the car is still going strong.
My car had full exhaust work and nitrous and it ran 8.5 in the 1000 ft.
Is that fast? NO. But really for the price and reliability you couldn't beat it. I got 24 mph tank to tank with aggressive driving and frequent burn outs.
Why come into a 5,3 thread to trash it? Plenty of people can use 5,3's to do almost the exact same thing an LS1 can at a fraction of the price. Especially if you are a college kid on a budget.
You can't even tell the power difference just sitting in the car. You have to be in a competition or on the dyno to see a difference in the numbers.
