Default V6 camaro cluster question!!

Hey guys a buddy of mine has a 2001 V6 camaro M5(I think) . And his speedometer is in KM/h he wants to make it where it shows MPH .. So if he changes the cluster to the regular MPH what else would he have to do to make sure it's accurate? Tune his comp or anything?

He'll just have to get it calibrated by a tuner.

What exactly would you be changing? What you can tune is the pulses of the vehicle speed sensor per mile or transmission revolution which is needed when you change gears and tire height.

I would assume this is similar to the situation where you change from a V6 to V8 155mph cluster... the speedometer works fine because the cluster interprets the speed signal to sweep the speedometer.

I would just plug it in and then drive it behind a friend or use GPS to see if it is accurate (which I think it will be).

I agree with HAZ-Matt. I don't think the pcm would need to be tuned. My V6 cluster is in MPH and KPH.

If you go from an 01 V6 cluster to an 01 V8 cluster I would assume you'll need to recalibrate the tachometer though, which is done through a simple value change in the PCM. When I swapped in my 98 LS1 my V6 tach was reading way too few rpms, but my speedometer was not affected.

As did mine. I am guessing from the OP's location that the export Camaro must have gotten one primarily in KPH.

If he is just doing a metric to english swap it should be as simple as changing the face of the cluster. Or he could parchase a used v6 cluster and it will work. Same values different measurement.
