so are 97 anniversary ss camaros worth restoring?
Well I am pretty much done with my 98z DD rebuild and was starting to poke around for my next project. I found a 97 anniversary ss (white with orange stripes) for a good price but it needs some minor paint work and a very thourogh cleaning. Its got over 100k miles but I would plan on rebuilding it in to another fun DD and show car. I have access to a lift for working on this car so r&r ing the drivetrain or under car work wouldn't be a big deal. Would this car be of any future value after a good restoration?

With over 100k, it's not currently worth much to any sort of collector (unless maybe it's an LT4, but even then the mileage will really hold it's value down). If you plan to spend time/money restoring the paint and finish, as well as mechanical work, I would excpect that you'll not recover your costs/time in terms of the sale price at any time in the near future, unless you're getting the car pratically for free.
As for ~20 years down the road, that's anyone's guess. I would suggest that you only buy the car and start this project if it will bring you enough joy to be worth it. I would not go into this expecting to make a big long term profit, because there is a good chance that you'd be highly disappointed if that's the main motivation.

only if its got a 5.3 and turbo but no LT's are just eh with price of LSX cars dropping. Unless you are attached to it... it would be a labor of LOVE. I can't seeing them being an IROC Z anytime soon. Unless you picked it up for a grand and its running and just needs some cosmetics... otherwise... labor of love!

Thanks for responses. I went through one labor of love with my all time favorite car, my 98 NBM Z and would get this one as a 3rd in line favorite f-body. I would fix up the anni. SS and keep it for several years but I guess I was gauging the desirability of 30th LT1 anniversary cars for the future. It seems to be that the only 4th gen in high demand is a 99 hugger orange ss. If I could get ahold of a 30th 1999 Trans am (2nd fav f-body) that would be awesome but most of those are way to much to buy upfront for what I want to do with it.

Just personal opinion, but 97's will pull more money than 93-96, and may approach ls powered cars because of one year only seats, last year of the front clip, first year of revised interior, etc. mileage will hold it back, but will be a nice cruiser
