Leave your ride in Fla. and pickup a Cavalier or some other inexpensive small car for commute and dealing with bad weather etc. KEEP THE FBODY!

do like i did...buy a cavalier for cheap...i leave the z in the heated garage w/ my fathers nova, they stay nice and clean ...the cav stays outside in teh snow and freezing tempatures w/ salt all over it i could never leave my car outside, letherown drive it in the winter and leave it outside...thinking of that makes me sick...the cavalier is pretty decent in the snow, and i get like 33mpg in city driving...thats what i do, and i tottaly agree LS1derful...i could NEVER sell my car, lol

keep the f-body and get something to get you around in winter. I had a 1990 Subaru Legacy for 2 years, bought for $1500 when my place of work moved 30 miles away and I didn't want to put the miles on my Nova, nevermind the 13 mpg! It was in great shape ( AWD , a/c, power everything) I'm sure you could find something like this! Believe me, I'll keep my Formula for a while, considering it took me a while to find one in 2001 the way I wanted it. Don't sell it man, find another way!

Just my $.02

When you get to PA buy a cheap front wheel drive to use when the weather is bad. On the nice days you can take the f-body for a spin. Thats what i do, it helps me keep my sanity!! Winter up here SUCKS!!!

RUA, I won't comment about keeping the car or not. But as a PSU alum, I will say good luck at Penn State if you chose it. It's a great place that I love going back to.

Hell, there's a reason they call it Happy Valley. And it's called Beaver Avenue

I would hang on to the car if I were you and do like everyone else has suggested and get a decent used FWD car for your commuting....

You may have the career later in life to afford a Camaro like the one you have now, but will you be able to get one? They're not building them anymore you know, so I see a price increase down the road for the ones that are left...plus it sounds like you really enjoy owning the car so I'd hate to see you regret letting it go. Remember, there are very few of us out there who keep our cars looking good (when compared to all the other drivers in the world) so I'd hate to see your car fall into the hands of someone who doesn't really appreciate it as much as you do...

As far as getting an SUV, they're great for getting through the lovely snow we get up here since you have the luxury of 4WD, but you have to be able to stop those beasts too...many people think "oh look at me I can plow through anything in my big bad SUV" but get into trouble when it comes time to stop....

As far as getting rid of your car for an import, I wouldn't even consider that option...

Good luck with your schooling and with your car....

Default Opinions wanted...Thinking of leaving F-bod community.

Well, I'm going to be headed off to college pretty soon and was thinking of selling my car before I go. Why? That's what I would like opinions about. I got accepted to Penn State, and as you can see below, that's is um, kinda far from where I live A little of this thought was because of the 1000 some old mile drive there which i would probably take twice a year. (4000+ miles), but moreso because of the northern weather, which I AM NOT complaining about , I don't know if I want to watch my car go through the abuse of snow driving and sitting outside all year, after having it garage kept, washed, waxed, and pampered for the past 2 years so it's spotless.
What do you guys think/recomend. I absolutely love these cars, and I know down the road with a career I'll pick it up again (if you recommend to let it go for now) Although, as I ask you guys this, I do keep in mind posts which people ask similar questions you guys say stuff like this....in one post a while ago a kid wa thinking of getting rid of his car and said "hey guys thinkin of sellin my car, what do you think of this Civic SI its ok right? nice right? kinda skippy right? and everyone ripped him. Im not coming to you like that. IF I WANT A FAST CAR WHICH I DO ILL KEEP MINE, im not asking you if a new car im thinking of like an import is nice. But if i did sell my car, i would get a more driveable thing for the trip and weather, i was thinking like a Tahoe in particular/ SUV.

There has to be an enclosed garage somewhere in Penn! During the crappy months, just keep her in a parking garage. This way if you ever do see a nice day you can take her out and show her off.

I'm still driving my car here in Illinois and there's salt and snow all over...

last year I grounded it.. but it was stored outside covered

when it's clean the car still looks awesome (black car... hard to keep clean)

The car is never going to be worth anywhere near what you paid for it... so have fun with it... yea they don't handle very well in the snow... so you drive slow (i've driven through a snow storm on a major expressway before the snow plows were out... took a while but made it home safe, and saw 4 SUVs and 3 cars in the ditch on the way back... why? because they were morons and didn't adjust for conditions)...

Our cars are almost all Fiberglass (body panels) ... bring the car through a car wash once a week and you're set....

Cars get old. Cars get dirty. Cars get miles.

Keep it. Drive it, put it in a parking garage and put a cover on it to make you feel better about it.
Find a friend/room mate with a SUV or something.
I put a totaly of about 2500 miles on fbodys (1/2 on a 96 SS, other 1/2 on 99 WS6) in 3 days. From FL. to Texas and back. little noisy, little bumpy, but well worth it!

just my $.02

Thanks for the opinions guys. Although, horist...when you say these cars aren't ever going to be anywhere near what we paid for them, I would think they're going to go up in value in the next 20 30 years, with them no making them anymore and all, and the fact that SSs are rare to begin with.

KEEP IT.
I think when you see just how little you might get for it when you go to sell it that you'll agree.
These are truly great (and fast) cars but these are also just tough times in general to be selling a used car.

LS1 SS's rare? NOT!
The LT1 SS's were rare.
Oh and they are going to be making at least the Camaro again in at least 2 years.

As a matter of fact I believe they made more SSs in 2002 than Z28s!

Just imagine cruisin along in your beater to class and you see 2 cars race or a viper pulls up next to you at a light ("man! why did i sell the ss"), just something to think about - although it couldnt hurt to have a beater for the bad weather days

keep it, you seem to really like it and take care of it, and like said above, not many people take GOOD care of their cars, especially the appereance.

OPTION 1 I'd say hang on to. Even if that means leaving it in Florida (if that's possible). I'm coming from a point of view of kicking myself in the *** because of all the cars I've let go of over the years.
OPTION 2 Take it and drive it. Enjoy it! No matter what it goes through it can always be fixed. When you got the time and money, go with the stroker and while that's being done send the body out for a paint job. Or maybe you'd end up trading it in on a new '06/'07 Camaro for a graduation present.
OPTION 3 (My favorite) I'd personally be happy to look after your car for you while your in school. I'd give it weekly baths, made sure it was in bed early on school nights, nothing but the best fuel and oil. I'd even send you pictures now and then!
Plus I'm on the way.
Good luck in your decision.

LOL...man more SSs than Z28s! WOW! I was under the impression that there was between 5000-8000 made in '01.
The thing is as i put more miles on the car, price goes down. What I don't know is where the equilibrium, so to speak, is going to be where the price will start to increase with the miles due to the fact that they stopped making the car. That's my motive to keep it. Then somwhere down the road, Id repaint it, bore it, stroke it, basically stip it and make it new. (im talkin 25 30 years, since im in the mindset of the 67-69 SSs).
Thing is you make it sound like a beater is bad. My rule of thumb, you can never "go down" when buying an automobile, unless of reasons such as family, which Im bound to have someday. That being said, this is why I mentioned SUV. A guy at my dad's office wants a Porche, and now has a '00 Denali with 20 inch BBS wheels on it, more racey(sp) and not too flashy. Maybe I could convice him to trade it, if he's wants a fast ride, not a Porche . Im just saying, I wouldn't buy a POS beater beater, Id keep my car in that case.
