well after buying a junker I redemed myself and just got an 86 Iroc for $500 . Tranny is shot but I got a buddy that gave me the 700 out of his 91 !! TPI runs ok, but needs a tune up. Needs the iroc wheels. We put it up on the lift to check the under side and it was in good shape. Even has Coil-overs in the back. It was originally burgandy but changed to blue. The tranny works when its cold but once it warms up it done. Gonna put some new clutches in the tranny and put a small convertor before it goes in there. Might put a summit tpi cam in there since its a non-roller motor and 86 had the crappy cam. Gonna do a compression before anything is done.

Autoform was one of the first companies to do conversions on 3rd gens to make them convertibles. ASC did conversions on later model thirdgens. There never was a convertible that rolled off the assembly line from 1982-92. Also , there never was a factory 2nd gen convertible ,either.

My '89 RS is an ASC convertible. The Autoform does not have a back seat while the ASC does. The Autoform has the coolest tonneau cover and looks like a two seater roadster (which it basically is) . Also , it is a much more rare car than an ASC. Interestingly enough , 3rd gen Firebird convertibles were only at a conversion rate of 10% to the Camaro convertibles over the entire 82-92 production run. An Autoform Firebird is a rare bird , indeed.

badjuju342 - You nailed that down pretty darn good. You definitely know your thirdgens!!! I believe I read in one of your post that the Autoform Cars look best with the top down, and the ASC cars look best with there tops up. I totally agree! My car looks horrible with the top up, but not to say that your car does not look good with the top down either. I like the ASC cars either way, and i must say that yours looks great and probably runs even better.

My only problem w/ the Autoforms are the "button" that they had to use to hold the top on right behind the door. The autoforms look like Batmobiles Anyone have a Choo Choo customs vert?

Well I got the '86 I bought to the house and it looks like its gonna get a transplant sooner that expected. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2084255 . Wanted to do a tune up and swap trannys and drive the TPI for a bit but it dont look like its gonna happen. Fuel pump went out, and the starter quit too. I hate doing swaps
