There really quite slow. The previous owner of my 89 RS ran the car at Firebird to the tune of 17+ at around 85mph in the 1/4 mile. BTW: the car has just over 200K on it.

Those 5.0L 305 V8s are slow as *****. I raced and beat a couple back when my a4 v6 was stock they were easy to beat.

Don't know what HP they were but I had an 89 RS 5 speed 2.8L rated @ 135 HP beat em from a roll every time. Had a street chip & K&N, Z28 exhaust. 1/4 mile ran 17.4. That's Sloooooooooow.

and i sure my l69 305 running 14.4@97 mph with tire spin would be easy to beat to with your v6....

Answer to your question: Not nearly enough to want it to stay in your engine bay.

What was the point of this comment? It's not like the guy was saying his V6 was a fast car - he was saying that L03's suck so bad that even a pos V6 could beat them.

That's how I took it anyway.

I would tend to agree with DMNSPD on this one.

l69 (190)= Z28

l03 (170)= RS

Next time read more about what we are talkin about. Friend at school has a 5.0L Iroc he had a hell of a time with my car as well. If im correct those are faster then your z28....unless your not stock?

its the point of people ripping on 305s all the time...they are slow because no one does anything with them because they figure right away a 350 is better (really it is) but even the lo3 motor can be made to run pretty good times (for that motor)

silverv6...i've raced plenty of lb9 and b2l irocs and wasted them...all i did was get rid of the factory carb and did lower control arms and subframes....instant mid 14 sec car 305(my other 84 z28)....tpi cars dont have anything on a car that can breathe all the way to 6500.....my car is a torque converter away from the 13s....not bad for a 305 now is it?...i still have stock suspension also (holley carb and 3 inch exhaust)

i bet your friends iroc was a 86....real crappy cam from the factory...and auto

to the poster....go on thirdgen.org and ask questions about your car there

I love my LO3 TBI, I dont care if its not as fast or as a horsepower monster as the TPI motors are.

The lack of horsepower makes up for its enormous amount of torque. I am not favoring any other engine beside my TBI, I am gonna build the motor. Its a damn strong motor for what it is and like they say it was never intended to be a performance engine...

With a full exhaust replacement, and a cold air element I should be raking in around 215hp...I have a few sources....I can resort to..

Btw, the 95 V6 = crappy slow...my car literally roasted the living crap out of this thing and I was barely tapping it too...

The 98+ models V6 were actually decently quick, and I'd like to see how my care fares up against that. If it should lose to a V6 I dont think the loss should be that bad....

but yes I will admit stock wise TBIs are pretty slow for V8s...I just think of it as a really good V6.......with lots of torque

EDIT: To 84Z28, Yeah I am actually a regular on thirdgen.org....alot of the people there are nice but some of them can be pretty nasty...I won't call out names..that Z28 of yours is pretty quick, alot of people underestimate the 305, they automatically look at the HP numbers and say its a shitty mobile...and its not. The 305 TPIs were rated at 205hp, now I am not saying anything but the new Cobalt SS has about 205hp and I can bet my dollar a stock Cobalt SS would be able to beat out a stock TPI, not only do they weigh alot less, they are quick little cars..

Anymore though, as cheap as thirdgens are, it's silly to not pick up a TPI car unless you want to go carbed.

And it's pretty cheap to put an LT1 in a thirdgen ,too! They're plentiful and almost a direct bolt -in.

Cool

I have a 92 305 TBI and my 92 Grand Prix 3.4L beats it. The GP is 210hp, 215ftlb, I think around 4000, and the Camaro is 170hp, but I think the torque is still 200+. Basically they are both slow. The funny thing is that the Camaro uses way more fuel...losing...

When I graduate, that 305auto will be swapped for a LS1,t56. That should beat the GP no problem...

oh yeah, the 305 has 206,000 mi...I'm sure that doesn't help...and maybe the lack of a clearcoat increases drag....hahaha dont' make fun of me I know this is basically negligible at these speeds.

Those GPs used the same engines as the Z34 Luminas did...Grand Prix back then though weighed alot less than they do now...

The Luminas were heavy cars...
