Default Does a 00 SS have a functional hood?

A guy I met had a 00 SS, and looked like a SS except I noticed one thing. It had the 98-02 SS hood, but the hood did not connect to the airbox. I thought all SS had a functional hood?
I was not able to see any of the RPO codes.

Well the SS hoods don't really function anyway. The useful air comes from the front airdam. On a stock SS hood the air has to travel in such a convoluted manner through small routing that it's basically useless.

If you pop the hood and follow the runners on a stock hood you will see that they rap all the way back around and have slits in them for the air box. But what works even better is the K@N FIPK system cause it puts the air filter directly if front of the slits. Thats what I have on my 2000 ss and I noticed a dramatic difference in installing this.

I know they are functional, but I'm wondering if all SS came with this "tunnel" for the air to come around. His car did not have anything to connect the scoop to the airbox.

Yes the hood is functional with the stock air box, aftermarket lid, or my favorite the K&N FIPK kit.

I don't care if it is functional or not. I want to know was the "functional hood" a part of all SS made in 00?

YES all factory SS' have the functional scoop. IF it didn't have the runners it's not a factory hood and probably not a real SS.

Ok, I thought so. It had the SS rims and badges, but I noticed the hood was not functional when he poped the hood. He said it was an SS, but I guess not lol.

Any bozo can slap an SS hood, spoiler, badges and wheels on a Z and call it an SS. Short of looking for the WU8 code you don't know for sure.

yes look at the sticker on the door and if you find a WU8 code its definitely authentic. Though i dont know why anyone would want to turn a z28 into an ss by buying aftermarket parts because it costs virtually the same as buying a factory one.
