True. It never started as one.

It became one, obviously due to hot rodding. Why not stuff a bigger engine/more HP into a smaller lighter frame?

But you're right it was intended as a world beater of sorts, the ultimate bang for the buck, kind of like the modern 'Vette.

When I see an 4th gen next to a 1st gen or even a 3rd gen I laugh at how bloated and fat it is, it's a modern muscle car, because every car today is oversized, but in it's hey day it was a pony car, no doubt.

My Z28 is my grocery-getter, just gets them quicker than most

j/k. This is a tough question as most people on here make valid points both ways. Growing up I always thought of the F-body as a muscle-car, although my plans for my Z28 are to do suspension, brakes, etc before I do engine work, and I plan to road race/autocross it .....what kind of muscle car is that?

I think it's what you make it, which is what's awesome about these cars.

Depends on what you have. a late model 4th gen lowered with 18" rims and a sound system doesnt seem like a pure muscle car. now, take that same car stock, put a 408 in it, slicks, and a roll cage and what would any person with a brain call it? a bad ***, modern muscle car.

I wondered why Pony Car was never an option...

its a small-ish coupe with lots of power and the ability to do somewhat everything... road race, drag race, fly to the moon, swim the depths of a muddy river...

muscle cars generally are just rwd straight line monsters made for a family...
sports cars are typically two seat rwd fast as hell and decent handling capabilities

the Mustang when it was created was to give the average person something that looked nice, went fast and could still be used for something else...

the F-Body in general was the answer to that.

btw DZ28's in road races ftw

I think this is how it is really classified. I still like to think of it as a muscle car though.
