Default Are 1998 A4 Camaro Z28 slow?

Hi folks

I think my title is enough. ^^ I compare them with a M6 Camaro from 1998

Thanks for answers

Stock for stock, the M6 will be *slightly* faster. But that doesn't matter, because you're going to mod it right

When my car was bone stock I romped on a 01 T/A M6, so it's all about knowing your car and how to drive it.

Stock for stock, the M6s usually pull nicely on the A4s. But an A4 with a torque converter will walk an equally modded M6 at the track all day.

As I have seen before on this board- "automatics win races, manuals are for high schoolers"

Its mostly preference, autos are easier on rear ends than 6spds, stock for stock 6spd will pull auto from a roll, 6spd are "dyno friendly"

Hmmmmmm... i'm really on the horns of a dilemma. I'm a good M5/M6 driver (in europe are 80% of the cars manuals). And yes i will mod my F-Body. I will get around 380-420RWHP!! =) But without a Turbo or Blower or Nitro! JUST cylinder capacity!

.....from a highway roll. But not from a stop.

Stock for stock from the same model year, both also being on the same tires, from a stop there will be very little difference within a quarter mile. The M6 car might edge out the A4 by a bit toward the top end if the driver is good, but not more than a couple tenths on average.

Problem is, lots of M6 driver's think they are good, when in fact they are just average.

True. The M6 will trap higher but an equally well driven auto should make some of it up on the first half of the track.

The two fastest stock LS1s I've personally seen run were both A4 cars. One was a '99 SS hardtop stripper model that ran 13.1, and the other was an '02 WS6 with all options that ran a 12.98. Both were stock down to the tires an air filters.

I know that some insanly good M6 driver's have taken stock M6 cars into the high 12s as well, but that is very, very rare. Most driver's are not *that* good.

Again, on average the difference between the two assuming all else is equal (including driver skill - yes it actually does take some skill to launch an auto car properly as well ) will only be about 2-3 tenths. As stated above though, the M6 will usually also run 2-3mph faster as well.

Have any more info on the WS6 in the 12's stock with an A4? Thats unheard of.

It was an '02 black WS6. It was one of our club project cars back in '02/'03. I should correct myself though; technically it wasn't "100% stock", as I now recall that we did port the stock MAF, but that was the only mod. All else was stock including the air filter & box, the stock catback, and the stock tires. Only weight reduction was removal of the jack and spare. I remeber the same day it ran 12.98 it also had a backup run of 12.99. Both runs were in the high 107mph to low 108mph range, but I can't recall the 60-foots. The runs were done in cold & dry weather, so I'm sure that helped power, but it was also sunny enough to warm the pavment for a decent launch....basically perfect track conditions. In lesser weather conditions it usually ran in the 13.2 range while still stock.

The car later ran in the 10.70s at 130mph with a procharger @7-8psi, 221//.558 cam, ported heads w/ bigger valves and dyno tuning....still at stock weight. At that point we had ported stock manifolds and an ORY. Car also had a vig3200 stall. The ET would have been better, but 26" ET Streets wouldn't produce better than 1.7x short times at that power level while still running the full stock suspension. That was with 3.23s in the stock 10-bolt.
