Exclamation Possible Recall 1993 - 2002 camaro

I have found something interesting out in the past week. I have a 2000 SS and I bought it new and have 11,400 miles and I have never had it in snow or any elements except once in the rain. My point is I have went the extra mile to keep it new.

Anyway so last Sunday it was bright and sunny and I took it out for the day and it was in the sunlight most of the day. I get home that evening and in the process of cleaning to put it away and I find a problem. The black panel that runs between the t-tops and back window are the issue. I notice the paint on this panel seems to be bubbling from under the paint and I was not sure what was going on. To make a long story short I contacted GM and they sent me to the dealer today to have it looked at. The dealer told me he has seen this happen on a 00 Firehawk a while back. It seems the gel coating is pulling away and making the paint bubble up. Once we examined it closely there is a little line that runs all the way across the panel to the other side and back where the glue holds that panel on. They said it should be covered although it's out of warranty. I was wondering has anyone else had this issue? If not I'm just trying to give everyone a heads up before it's to late to have it fixed. Thanks for your time to read this.

Do a SAIL PANEL RECALL search in the appearance forum and you will find all kinds of threads about it.

I'll point you in this direction. This tread has been around the apearance sec for a while now but I have never had any problems with mine. Here's the link, hope it helps.

Had mine redone when the car was about a year old. Did the same thing. It's a fairly common issue with the F-body.

Thanks for the advice because I could not find anything on it. Does anyone have the SBB number? For some reason the lady at GM has no idea what I'm talking about and I can't get her to verify (in concrete) that they will cover it unless she finds the number or I find the number and I can only assume how much effort will go into the search from their end. She is in the legal dept. and of course has never heard of this happening. I guess I better prepare for war just to be safe. I will also post what happens for others. If anyone has that SBB number please post it.

I think I found it SBB 03-08-98-001A? Maybe someone could check me on this or maybe this will help someone else who is looking for it.

I have posted a Phone Number in the Apperance section, page 11. It has worked for 1 person, let's make it work for everybody.

As far as I know, there is no recall on this. There is, however, a TSB covering the issue and how to fix it.

The TSB was issued for '99-'02 cars. They seem to have it the worst. I've only heard of two '98 cars that had it (these may have been late build '98s) and never any LT1 cars.

i just got my car about 3 months ago and i had it replaced as soon as i got it...although my dealer's service manager was real decent about it. make sure and ask to speak to the service MANAGER because he has to approve it anyway. your car will be in for around 3 days..its a lengthy process... i think they have to cut the old one off, paint the new one, then put down adhesive and let the new one adhere, then clean up everything.

Just checked it on a dvd that i have...it is service bulletin titled: "Bubbles in the Paint Around the Perimeter of the Roof #03-08-98-001A -(April 2, 2003)" and it effects all 99 to 02 firebirds and camaros. And on the dvd it claims a full time of about 3 hours for everything but good luck with that.

I need more info. on this matter. GM called me today and said they would pay half of $850 for the repair. I said that I think they should pay for the whole thing because it's their error. So I go to the ladys boss and he says he is bending over backwards for me and if I don't like it he will just close the case and I can pay for the whole thing. I said I need to contact my dealer and I would call back. Not even 5 minutes later the lady calls me and says she needs to know what I want to do because the offer is not on the table for long.

Can someone who has had this fixed by them please tell me who you called or how you did it in detail because I'm not going to give in to their error. I need names, phone numbers, your GM ref. number or anything you have please. If I can get this fixed I will post how I did and I will go into detail on how to do it with all of my info. so we can all avoid being screwed!

GM told me to go pound sand. Mine is 2000 hardtop and it has 35K on it and its mostly a garage queen also. It doesn't make any difference how you keep it. If its going to happen its going to happen. I am going to keep the car but its the last GM for me.

So that's what that is. My 99 hardtop Z started doing this a few months ago. Mine is bubbling in the middle of the top of the roof.

Same issue starting to show up here also; car has only 32K miles, and is mostly a garage queen, backup car. I can only guess what the local dealers out here in Cali will say...
