LT1s are good engines. If you are gonna stay stock look for a 96-97 they have the best designed optispark. If you are gonna mod it then just change the optispark out for a MSD unit when it fails.

What's your limit money wise. I'd say look around because there are plenty of LS1's out there that you can get for a great deal especially ones that came out in 98-00.

lt1's are not a bad motor but imo they were a stop gap until the ls motors came out. The problem with that is they only made them for 5 years and now have not made them for ten. The ls motors have already been made for ten. While the bottom end is old school chevy the opti etc etc are not. I just ran into this the other day getting mine fixed. The mechanic I deal with can hardly remember the lt1 and had to borrow a scanner because it is still obd1. For ease of repair, future support ,junkyard parts I would go ls1 all the way.

it's a good motor... typical sbc platform (strong), but fuel injected for emissions and gas mileage. i'd be more concern about the tranny on a high milegage A4 car than the engine. my 2 cents

lt1's are great motors. they last forever and they can take a hell of a beating. its not uncommom to see them with 140k miles and still running great. just be careful when buying one, make sure it hasn't been ragged out by the previous owner

yes there are, just research it and youll do fine....i would go into them but i kinda forgot all of them, its been years since my lt1....

Am i the only ls1 owner here that actually wants an lt1? dont get me wrong, i would never sell my car for one or anything, but my next car will defintly be another lt1 camaro....

Off the line, NOTHING feels like an lt1....and that sound......the sound.....

well my son just bought a 94 z28 120k for $5000 it has fresh black paint leather t tops a little wear on the drivers seat bolster probably a $100 fix it looks tough with the black paint and the red z28 emblems i like driving it and i must say from 0-60 feels as strong as my firehawk. ive been reading up on the opti is there any way to tell if they have upgraded his or changed it? im sure if it has a stock replacement i wont be able to tell. but it is a solid car joy to drive so time will tell if we made a good purchase.
