Is a car with a manual tranny really faster than an automatic car?
I want to know if there is a speed difference between a 4th gen camaro with the Automatic in it and the same gen camaro with the manual transmission in it.
This isnt a "my car is better because it has a 6-speed" question. I really want to know the fact.

Well what do you mean by faster? Obviously an M6 allows you to control what gear you are in and thus possibly providing better means for acceleration. However an M6 is more dependant on the driver to get the best results. Missed shifts are a common occurence which is obviously not a problem in an A4.

I'll tell you the A4 is a turd untill you get your Torque management deleted and throw a stall in it then you can stick with a good driver of a M6.
Torque managment is the program in all auto to prevent abuse on them so they can last longer but it kills the HP.
If you notice you have like 2 sweet spots on that car somthing like 30 and 70 when you hit the gas it takes off. But thier are alot of dead spots get a stall and get the T/M deleted and your car will feal totaly diffrent and the guy with the M6 is going to have to work to stay with you.

Even with a converter, the A4 cars will get pulled by an M6 on the highway. It is because the A4 tranny is less efficient and robs a little more power than a manual does.
Stock vs Stock, the 6-speed is a faster car if you can shift. The problem is, 9/10 manual drivers simply suck and should have bought an auto.
At the dragstrip, an A4 with a converter and good drag tires is nearly impossible to beat with a 6-speed on the stock rear axle. Can't really cut those 1.6 short times on a 6-speed without breaking something back there. Autos can do so reliably.

m6 is faster from a roll because you can downshift into lower gear go into higher rpm and take off better. at the track it depends stalled a4 launches good and the gears are constant and no mess ups but if the m6 driver is good doesnt not miss a gear and power shifts good the m6 would win

also keep in mind that the factory gears are usually different. my A4 came with 2.73 gears, which are better for bas mileage since we only have 4 gears to go through. the M6 (with 2 OD gears) allows for a higher gear ratio, which gives better acceleration.
also the 2.73 gear cars came with steel drive shafts, as compared to the aluminum ones...
both good points for a stock vs stock comparo.

Once you get some serious power the auto will dominate but stock vs stock I'd say the M6 as well. Without a converter and gears its a dog and shouldn't really be comparable to a 6 speed with lower gears from factory. Put the 2.73's in the M6 and get a decent stall for the auto and that would be a better race even though it wouldn't happen. An obvious better comparision would be an auto with a stall and some 3.73's.
All said and done, its allot easier to drive the **** out of a stock M6 than it is with allot of power behind it. An auto stock or allot of power either way is allot easier to drive than an M6 giving it the advantage when the power level is higher. With my current build I had a viper spec t-56 built and ended up selling it and now building a 4l80e instead. It will be allot faster but the M6 would have been more fun though!

The A6 tranny in the C6 corvette shifts in .003 seconds. It takes the average manual driver much longer to engauge clutch, shift gears, release clutch. It just seems faster because you're doing so much stuff. Manuals show more torque to the wheels on a dyno than a similar auto tranny car, though, and yes, from a roll races are usually the bane of the auto tranny, as the manual has more control over rolling launch rpm.

Also Manuals are better for road racing stuff with corners!
The only time I will own a auto again is if I'm building a single diget drag car, because that's where they are unstopable.
one thing you guys have to remember about auto's if you an power shift them, so if you doing a 25 roll you can put the car in fist and then shift the car. hell some autos will let you put it in first and then when it hits the red line it will shift it's self some you have to keep shifting, that's why slap shifters are fun.
BTW I like rev limiters lol.
