Syclone 354 LQ9 Turbo still AWD is running
Well, it has been over 2 years since the 4.3 lifted the head gaskets (for the last time) and i parked it and started this swap. Well on 3/6/09 I fired the new engine! This was particularly rewarding since this was the first engine that i put together completely unsupervised from picking the bare block up at the machine shop to turning the key. Thanks to my Dad for welding up my radiator, a "slightly" modified griffin, my upper charge pipe and upper radiator hose connector. Im still learing on the TIG so he was a huge help with those parts. Otherwise, its all me and im damn proud of it!
A quick rundown of this build
6.0 LQ9 block .030 over
stock crank
eagle rods
weisco pistons
comp cam (trying to find my cam card) lifters, springs etc
317 casting heads, "cleaned up" with oversize intake valves
ls1 intake
my own "custom" made exhaust manifold system
new FAST XFI/XIM management system
left overs from the 4.3 include
4l80e trans with 3500 Hughes converter with lockup
3 inch downpipe and exhaust
Turbonetics T76 Q trim ball bearing turbo
Now enough talk, what everyone wants to see is pics. The entire album can be seen at http://s105.photobucket.com/albums/m...e%20V8%20Swap/
But here are some highlights

Ive been to the end of my Dad's road and back but that was it. A cracked flare on one of my tranny cooler lines kept it off the road till tonight. More tuning and driving tomorrow though.
The 4.3 with that same t76 went 11.20's at over 125mph in street trim (didnt even let air out of the tires) so i am really curious to see what this will do once its tuned and boosting ;-)

My buddy was telling me about someone that did an LS swap in one of these but kept it N/A and ditched the AWD. To each their own, but I think you did it right. Good job. Cant wait to see it run.

And as for the front prop shaft, that is actually an upgraded model from stock that was extended for the 4l80e swap. With the transfer case in these trucks on 35% of the power goes up front, so that one is plenty beefy to hold what it does get.
I took it for a little longer drive tonight after correcting an alternator issue. Not really running hard yet, lots of tuning and it drives 100% better than it did when we left. Im going to get one or two more rides like that in, change out the break in oil and then start leaning on it a little more. We did see a max of 3lbs of boost (it spools SOOOOO much faster than the v6 i wasnt expecting it) and it felt like the v6 did at 10lbs of boost. It felt good and has me excited about its potential.

That's a work of art!
I have a Syclone too, and I can't stand the stock 4.3L setup. I have built 10 second Mustangs and 10 second Vettes, but that d@mned Syclone of mine can't get out of the 12's without blowing itself up and man is it a bear to work on!
I'd love to see your truck run at the truck someday. Congrats!

I took the truck to Bowling Green Kentucky for a national Syclone/Typhoon meet. We had a rental at Beach Bend Raceway, and even in the heat (like over 100 degrees heat) and no traction, I had a best run of 11.21 @ 123.79. The next pass I made was a bracket race where I dialed 11.11. I went 11.20 on the brakes to keep from losing the race as I had a large lead. That probably would have been a 10.9x pass. This is on my base setup, 93 octane gas and 7-8 lbs of boost.
BTW I DROVE the truck over 650 miles from home to this meet, ran it at the track, then DROVE the truck over 650 miles to home! !
I was really pleased considering this was the first time at the track at all with this setup. Traction was an issue, i could leave with only 1-2 lbs of boost before it would start spinning bad. Apparently the track was scraped earlier in the week. 60' times were only in the low 1.7x's.
Anyway, i was put in the "Outlaw" syty class because of the v8, and raced a v8 twin turbo typhoon in the final round. After winning that I went on to also win the "King of Nationals" bracket eliminations. Below are some links to a couple videos I have from the weekend down there.

(Listen at the end you can hear the truck backfire from the crossover pipe blowing off)

(Im really hoping there is more video of this run, it was definitely the race of Nats!)
