short starter body
Anyone have more info? I need to find one soon and don't particularly want to pay $200 for an autozone starter.
This is in a Miata and there isn't much room to maneuver around the headers so getting one that's 6 1/2 or maybe even 7 inches long would allow R&R without pulling the header.
Thanks,
Frank

Not only shorter, but the diameter of the starter body is also smaller.

It gives a lot more room compared to a standard LS1 car starter:

i know the GM Hi Perf book listed several starters, some were only avail. rebuilt, not new-
I've got an '07 Silverado and '06 Hummer starters locally at boneyards.
Just search some more part numbers. Looks like the Delco is 3361932 or 3361932A from the 6.0 liters. The 5.3s have a 3361929 and don't show compatibility though they will probably fit. FWIW when I was at Autozone yesterday getting my F-body starter tested, I had them pull a 5.3 truck starter and it was the same length as the F-body.
Thanks,
Frank

Its either the truck starter or the Summit starter. I can't seem to find much on the Summit starter though

Went to parts store and had them pull a starter for '01 Tahoe 5.3L LM7 (left), '07 suburban with 5.3L LC9 (middle), and '08 Silverado LY6 6.0L which is same part number for '08 Escalade L92 6.2L (right).
You can see the length differences, but also the starter motor girth differences. I haven't dug into what the starter performance differences are, but feel like the '08 starter for bigger displacement engines is best bet for me, while also solving the length issue.
