Looks like the options one may want, will make a significant difference in the prices. My bud has a nice 69 vert/350/350. He's looking for about $26K USD.

Whatever someone is willing to pay? Way too many variables in that question, everyone's definition of "a fair price" is different.
That question is like one a friend asked me,
How much does a NEW Ford truck cost?
And can you tell me what is a fair price to paint my house?
A fair or average price in my book is between 10-20 thousand for a nice driver quality car.

Up in Canada here in pristine condition they go from anywhere upwards of 19000 and I've seen them sell for as high as 45000. It all depends what's invested and what you're looking for. For a clean base, numbers matching 69 camaro don't expect to be paying any less than 20-25000.

They sell for way more than they should, from what I've seen. I always have to chuckle when some dingleberry has a completely rusted out basket case run of the mill 1st gen Camaro for sale for some silly *** price. Hoping for a total fool to come across it, I guess. The only thing worse are these waterheads who have one sitting in their yard, just positively rotting away and refuses to sell it.

Expect to pay $5k+ for a basket case. If you plan to put an LS in it , find a restored or original plain Jane model. Stay away from z28 and SS models
IMHO find a different year or car. You will get way more car for the money

Abdullah, do you want a rolling body/no engine, so that you can adapt an LS1?Or, are you looking for a ready to go 69 with 327, 350, or 396?
Also, are you looking for an upscale model...like an RS, or SS, or the like?
I bought a 67 with quite a bit of rust. In retrospect, it was a big mistake, and cost alot of money to make the body rust-free & correct.
Consider how much you'd like to spend, then go from there.

You should be able to buy a restored or perfect condition base model for $20K

Around here '67 and '68s go for over $10k here for basket cases. '69s are a little cheaper. Good condition drivers go for $20+ in my area. Everyody has first gen camaros, and they are stupid expensive. Buy a chevelle or nova or something different.

There's always the money 'push-pull', between buying a restored vehicle, with driveline, and a vehicle without driveline. If the OP's plan is to remove a driveline to install his own, then it wouldn't pay to do the former. Depends upon what your final aim is. If OP wants the car to be his own design, I'd stay with a rolling chassis with little rust.
I see what you're saying, though, badazz.

Spend a bit more now to save a lot of money later. These cars are way overpriced, but if that is what one wants that's what it will take. You should be able to find a decent car for $15K that someone else has already dumped $30K and a ton of labour into and wants out,but sadly you will still need another $15K and labour to finish it right.Look at the bright side,in ten years time you will still have a 67 Camaro that still holds a good value,if you bought a new 2012 today for $50K,it will only be worth about $5K then!

I'm shocked by the value of the first gens....There are SOOO many of them exisiting today and they are really crappy cars. GM just threw that one together. Of course the aftermarket has helped them, but takes away from the origonality (Value)

I hear ya,but in 50 years time(I won't be around to see it),what would you rather be swapping an electric or alternative fuel powerplant into?Ten years from now most of us will likely be hanging out on an electric/hybrid swap message board instead, just a matter of time before Big Oil's thug like suppression of alternative energy sources comes to an end.Hmmm, haven't they been saying that for the past thirty or so years?Nevermind...

There are plenty of cool old Buicks and Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs out there. I already have a Nova but I have seen some really cool BOPs that I would love to have. Oh, and they aren't first gen Camaros!
