Default Holley retrofit oil pan leaking.

I found this thread from a little while back. Doesnt 100% address my issue.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...y-oil-pan.html

Motor is an LS2. its in an S10. Replaced the oil pan with a holley retrofit pan. New ACD oil pan gasket. Used the stock hardware for the pan to block, and used the supplied hardware and gasket for the optional oil cooler block off.

It looks as if my leak is coming from that oil cooler block off just above the oil filter. I installed it dry on the pan. About 250 miles of driving I noticed a drip of oil off the bottom of the oil filter. put it on a lift at work and suspected the
block off plate. removed block off plate and seal. cleaned surfaces and used black rtv on both sides of seal to see if I could stop the leak that way... Well now its worse. Any spirited driving for more then 20 mins and it drips. to the ground.

Anyone had/having this issue.

I am going to try and put a call in with holley today and see what they suggest...

Are you sure the leak is not out of a valve cover? I have seen a small leak happen in a VC gasket when under heavy load, looks like pan leak. Just a thought. Maybe check for flat on the blockoff plate as well.

It is only localized to that one area. 100% not a valve cover.

Spoke to a holley rep yesterday and they are sending me a new seal and block off plate. I will clean. Check for flatness and reinstall when it gets here and update!

This is a long shot, but a possibility. I also have an LS2 and I had a mysterious oil leak at the rear too. I am not sure if the Holley pan has the oil filter in the same place as my pan, but anyway....

I swapped out the oil pressure sender for an aftermarket one. I am talking about the one at the top of the engine behind the intake manifold. I had to use a brass adapter in that spot, and it turned out that the leak was coming from a crack in that adapter, and leaking down the back of the block/transmission area. It appeared that it was leaking at the pan.

So anyway, check the back of the intake manifold and see if the block has any oil on it.

Thanks dave! I appreciate the tip I will check. I did have to swap the OPS for a truck style 2 pin one when I first started the swap awhile back.

My new f body pan from GM had a casting flaw. A pin hole near the base of the oil filter sealing surface. Almost drove me crazy.

So by "metal gasket" do you mean metal with rubber made onto it or solid metal gasket like an exhaust manifold gasket? My H2 pan came with the all metal one which I used, but didnt seem as good as the one with the rubber part.

To the OP, off topic, but is that a 32 Ford truck in that last pic? Looks cool.

GM's updated gasket is all metal. They got away from the metal core-rubber embosed gasket they used for years. It seems they wouldn't take the oil pressure over an extended period of time.

I use copper coat on the newer all metal gaskets and let them setup before I start it.

One thing you can do with the block off/oil pressure adapter plate is flat file it and make sure it's true. Obviously you don't want to do this with the pan side.

I've seen ALOT of these block off/adapter plates over torqued causing them to bow.

Nice looking S10. I have a soft spot for that gen of S10's.

Thanks guys! Still waiting on the new plate and gasket from Holley but I'm thinking about just going up to my GM dealer and seeing if they have one instock and use the new updated all metal gasket. I'll keep you all updated.
