Default Thunderbolt! My LS3 V8 Miata build

Hi All,

I think I finally have something worth posting here! I have been in super-lurker mode for the last umpteen years and while I've enjoyed the entire forum, this section has always been my favorite by far. I've just never had anything worth sharing as I've never owned an LS powered car, but have always admired them and their awesome performance.

To sum me up, my name is Tom and I grew up in a service station. Like, literally. Haha! I've always loved making cars faster and enjoy sharing it with everyone on websites and forums. A few years back I tried something new by taking a little video with my iPhone which became "Tom's Turbo Garage" my YouTube channel where I work on all sorts of stuff, from my old Grand National to 4G63 powered cars.

So after years of plotting and scheming, I am finally building my dream car: a 2004 LS3 powered Mazdaspeed Miata! Over the coming months I'll be documenting the whole process in pictures and video, so I hope y'all enjoy it. I do have a build thread over on the Miata.net forums as well, but I thought y'all would get a kick out of it here and hopefully I can share some more LSx specific stuff in this thread.

On each update, I'll share a link to the video and a link to my website where I'll have more pictures and stuff if you're interested.

Well I don't want to make anyone mega jelly, but yes it is my personal garage. It's something that I planned out in my head and worked toward for a long time. It is nice to have this space, but I took on some pretty big projects back in the day under the old carport while getting munched on by fire ants. I worked much faster back then. It's amazing what you can accomplish under the threat of a fire ant attack. :-D

Haha, so does mine I suppose! All kidding aside, I realize that I come off as a neat freak, but I find that given the time that I have in the garage (an hour here, an hour there) I have to be neat and super organized or I get mixed up too easy.

A buddy of mine wanted to do a single turbo 5.3 '90s Miata with a powerglide for giggles. I may use you as a guide for him.

I have followed your galant VR4 project from the beginning and in all seriousness, they are very enjoyable and funny to watch. A nice mix of being serious when it comes to install/progress and then onto the funny bits to keep watchers interested. This looks like a very cool project and will keep my eyes on this as well. Good stuff.

That's a sweet garage. I can only imagine all the tools you probably have in there.

Thank you sir, I appreciate that! This is my personal car that I've been planning for and saving up to build for a long time. Summit is helping to make the video series possible and are featuring the build on their OnAllCylinders Blog, among other places. It's exciting for me personally, as I've been a loyal Summit Racing customer and fan since the early 90s. Back then I would sneak and order speed parts using COD delivery so my parents wouldn't find out.
