Need advice on my wrecked LQ4 Denali
This site is full of wonderful people and very detailed information but my searches aren't helping me so I appreciate any info that I can get.
I have a 2005 yukon denali xl with a 6.0 LQ4 and a 4L60e(I assume) transmission. 14mos ago my wife rolled it onto the drivers side at 55mph and slid down the highway. It was left running for a brief moment until a bystander climbed it and turned it off. It started easily the next day and blew smoke for 2-3 seconds before I turned it off. It has been sitting in my driveway, (mostly)covered ever since.
I would like to pull the engine and tran for a rebuild and swap into my jeep sometime down the road, and part out what I don't need.
What do I need to do before I try to start it again? Then what tests should i do on the engine, tran, axles, accessories to assess any damage and help with rebuild process?
Thanks
Ben

If it was myself i wouldnt scrap anything until you do the swap. But if the wife is pushing to get it out of driveway I'd fire it up before pulling. After being on its side or roof at all its normal for a bunch of smoke on next start up. Since it has been sitting so long I'd pull the spark plugs and turn it over a couple times in 5-10 sec intervals hoping to see some oil pressure and blow anything out of the cylinder that may have accumulated in there (moisture/oil from being up side down). If everything looks good upon rolling over then throw plugs back in and try to start it. Onced fired up let it get to temp checking for leaks or any weird noises. If its not puking fluid and doesnt sound like the motor is eating itself try the transmition. Either in driveway just trying gears or under cover of darkness maybe a little ride. When pulling motor, trans and rears if your using them you really want to keep just abaout everything they touch. I've even used the fuel lines on a swap before. It sucks to buy something to do the swap when you know you threw something away that would have worked. Not sure if its a 4l60 or 80 but the 80 may have another module/computer seperate from the ecm you'll need to track down and keep. Lots of info in the conversion/hybrid section on what you may need. These are tuff motors it prob wont need a rebuild, good luck.

It's not an 80e. It's a 4l65e. Basically a beefed up 60e with an extra 3-4 clutch and 5 pinion planetaries. I'd just start it up and check for noises or leaks. It'll smoke for a minute but should stop once the oil burns off.

As mentioned above, just run it in your driveway to ensure no noises or damage related to lack of oil pressure. Wouldn't the ECM would shut the motor down if it loses oil pressure anyway?......Maybe someone can confirm.
