Default Fires up, dies immediately (First start, fresh build)

I fired up the 6.0 for the first time tonight and it dies right away. It fires up quickly but wont hold an idle. It doesnt sound like it even tries to hold the idle. Just fire up and die.

Where should I begin troubleshooting? What are the possible issues that cause this?

Sounds like VATS to me. Has the ecu been tuned?

You should give us more info on your setup, what vehicle its in, etc.

Just going by what you said, im 99% sure the VATS is killing it. VATS is the vehicle antitheft system that must be turned off by a tuner when doing any kind of swap.

That was my first thought too. I paid a guy to setup the wiring harness and flash the ecu. I assumed he did the vats thing but apparently not. There isnt any way to tell without software like HP tuners correct? Im probably better off just taking the ECU to a local shop?

You should be able to scan it and get a vats dtc of some sort. Thats exactly what the vats system does, you may could check for spark or injector pulse and see if it indeed is going away but its obvious it is.

I would call the guy that did your tune and see what he says. Also what kind of vehicle is this in?

Are you using a E38 pcm or a gen 3, 411 pcm ?

This was my problem. I had the power and ground switched on my card-style MAF. Apparently this is a common problem if the wiring was originally setup for a screen style MAF because those two pins need to be swapped. On mine it would crank and try to fire but wouldn't take an idle.

It is a 2002 6.0 LQ9 out of a Cadillac Escalade. So I'm thinking that would be a gen 3 pcm?

It's in a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle with 4l80e.

I purchased the correct maf sensor and housing for an 02 Escalade from Rock auto.

Unfortunately it's been about 2 years since I have been in contact with the guy that worked on the harness and I no longer have his number.

I do have a scanner that uses the torque app on my cell phone. Will that be able to detect vats and injctro pulse?

It should be able to read the trouble codes, however im not familiar with it. Thats the first step tho, check the codes and see what the pcm is saying.

I assume your engine is stock except for standalone, ie no cam swap, injectors etc. Let us know what codes, if any, you get and we can surely get this thing straightened out

Yeah this is a bone stock LQ9.

Okay ill check it out tomorrow morning. Im also scheduled to take my PCM in to the local LS tuning guru tomorrow afternoon to check if in fact VATS was deleted. Hopefully I can figure something out in the morning. Thanks for your help guys. Its greatly appreciated. Ill report back tomorrow.

Hopefully I can get this thing going so I can run it in the Roadkill Zip Tie drags.

I took the PCM to the guy today and discovered that it was never flashed. VATS was still enabled. The PCM was still setup for a 4l60e and I have a 4l80e which if it ran would cause serious transmission damage.

Im going back out to the garage now to hook everything back up and also figure out why my OBDII scanner is not talking to my PCM.

I also have to check my transmission connector to make sure its pinned for a 4l80e.

I wired my obd port wrong and my scanner wouldn't talk to the pcm either. I finally figured it out though. It was a power wire IIRC.
