Default ls1 swap & parts list (big read)

okay, i have been searching for the past 2 hours to find out everything i need for a complete ls1 swap for my 93 trans am.

Heres what i have...
170k miles 1993 Trans am LT1 with 4L60 (basically 700r4) oh and its 100% stock other than wheels

Its time to upgrade. Ive always wanted a 6 speed so I bought an LT1 6 speed swap kit off of ebay. It included everything i need to ditch my 700r4. I also bought a Hurst shifter and center console for the swap. Well I never ended up doing the trans swap this summer cause i wanted to build my engine at the same time.

Now ive always wanted an LSX so im kinda thinking now is the time. My goals with my LT1 were to send the heads to Lloyd elliott for his LE2 package with an LE3 cam. I wanted to basically add some nice forged pistons and upgrade the entire engine with ARP fasteners. I need to buy all the supporting mods to go with this too.

Well, i searched countless threads and realized a low mileage LS1 w/t56 swap would cost about the same. If i did the ls1 swap, i would buy full bolt ons and a cam w/springs. and be happy as hell. (for now) I think that a cammed ls1 would be very similar in power to a H/C/I LT1. Yeah it wouldnt be a completely fresh engine but thats okay as i have a better platform for future modding Oh and I could sell my Lt1 t56 swap for about 1300 to help fund my project

Okay so now after spending hours researching i have come up with this list for parts needed for my swap (remember im going from 93 LT1 w/700r4 to 98-02 LS1 w/t56)...
tell me what else i need or could get rid of...Thank you for your help

Parts Needed...

low mileage LS1 engine and t56 trans from 98-02 fbody (all brackets and accesaries still attached)
ls1 wireing harness
ls1 cpu
ls1 k-member
ls1 steering rack and shaft
ls1 pedal assembly (would the lt1 pedal assembly work? sensors?)
98-02 trans am gauges
gas tank w/fuel pump (dont know if this is really needed)
ls1 fbody throttle cable
ls1 t56 slave and master cylinder (would this work from my lt1 swap kit?)
will my lt1 radiator work?

of course my goodies like

Long tube headers
cam w/springs
ls6 intake
injectors
ported throttle body
tune
msd wires
ram air hood and air box from a lt1 ws6

To help with the swap just pretend that its going to be 100% stock engine wise. Im really trying to figure out every part i need to do the swap so i can do it right the first time. I know alot of you have done this before. Help me turn my 1993 Trans Am Lt1 a4---------------into-------->1993 Trans Am LS1 m6 thanks again

use the search function (magnus did one of the 1st ls1 swaps, good info there)

as for a cheap low mile ls1, they're around, but you shouldn't overlook the 6.0s imho

okay i found a site with some info. but i still have some questions, can i use my stock gas tank and fuel pump? what about fuel lines? if i can keep alot of my misc. stock pieces and possibly add to it then just make a custom setup than thats what id like to do(i just dont wanna replace everything if i can make some things work somehow) I found out i can keep my lt1 radiator, but would I have to switch to DexCool antifreeze? Im still confused on the gauges part too...

You can use your stock tank, it would be wise to upgrade the pump to a Racetronix though (LT1). The LS1 runs at 58 psi, where the LT1 runs at 43 psi, so the stock pump would have a hard time keeping up. You can use you stock lines, but you will have to use a fuel pressure regulator. The later LS1 cars had a returnless style fuel lines. You can get fittings to utilize the stock quick connects. You can use your LT1 rad, it is a little heavier duty than the LS1 rads.

You don't have to use Dex-Cool. As far as the gauges, that might be tricky, the later cars ran the gauges through the PCM, you would have to look at a wiring diagram to see if you dash harness would work with a later cluster. I kind of doubt it.

I've been using an Aeromotive regulator since 2004 with no problems.

you could have guages, wiring, ecm, motor, trans, x-members, motor mounts, radiator, fans, condensor, gas tank w/ pump, all fuel lines, newer bigger ls1 brakes, steering shaft, steering rack, etc etc etc. i might even have the headers and a few other things you need.

would i be able to use the fuel pressure regulator/filter from the 99+ corvette? It seems alot of people use this in their swaps. If i had this would my stock fuel tank and pump work?

not sure about the other gauges but I do know the fuel gauges use different ohm ranges if that helps at all, personally I'd keep the stock dash/gauges and add whatever extra gauges you might want, just my .02

you could just use the 98 fuel rail (I think) and a reg or you could do what most of us who've swapped into older cars are doing and use a 99-0x vette regulator/filter and not use a return from the rail (so you could use 99+ rail)

stock fans

still need a higher psi pump

hmm...so basically it would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a tank from a 98+ fbody with the fuel pump still installed. then i could just buy some stock fuel lines and everything would hook up like factory...Am I right???

sounds right to me, remember that 99+ tank is plastic (weighs less and holds 1 more gallon fwiw)
