check my post, here is how I did mine, dual units because I need to leave room for the A/C condensor at the radiator. If you don't plan on an A/C unit, just us a 12x12 supercooler, should be plenty.

I did have to trim my filler panel a little bit, but it'll clean up well.

Well you would want to flow through it. Unless is one of the $160 ones with its own thermostat and fan i wouldnt reccomend putting it anywhere but in front of your radiator. Most radiators are available with built in transmission coolers then you ADD another cooler in front of the radiator to with with the cooler in the radiator.

I would rather have it up in front of the car vice under the car because of road debris etc.... not wanting anything hitting it.

If you saw the stocker used on 4L80e's, you wouldn't be asking this question. 2500's with the 6.0L had one that was maybe 6"x15".

Yeah but that is when used in conjunction with the radiator cooler i'm sure.

My Duramax 2500 with an Allisson transmission doesnt use the radiator. My transmission cooler runs 5/8" line and its the size of my radiator. Granted this is a different transmission and tows 20,000lb+

I'd imagine they do use it w/ the radiator. I'm running a separate dedicated trans cooler from flex-a-lite, and I've got no problems with a 3000 stall in my TH350. I'll continue to use it when (if?) the 80e is dropped in.

I just noticed what you are talking about. You are talking about one like this. Which wouldnt not work very well at all. Thats a good oil, or power steering cooler but not for a transmission.

This would be the best setup

And if not the next best would be this which you can buy at autozone for around $35

I am using the finned aluminum double pass unit 15" long mounted just like you said. I also have the Derale deep pan with the cooling tubes running through it.

http://www.derale.com/pans.html

I am not running fluid through the radiator. I am running a 2800 stall Yank convertor and so far so good, been on the road for 2 years and 9,000 miles.
