Sorry didn't see your post here. I own 3 now. A white parts car, black daily driver, and red/flat black with the LS1.

I have been focusing on work a lot lately so not a lot of progress. I like taking little breaks from a build so you can be focused when you get back at it. haha

Little update: I picked up a whole Turbo 2 RX7 a week ago for $300. I'm just using it for the spare diff and axles. Probably going to sell the body and try to get my $300 back out of it. I ordered hubs and flares today. Decided to go with some bolt on flares this time around. I don't like the look as much, but they are half the price and easier on me all around.

Work is going well though which should keep this moving along nicely. Should have some more updates in the coming weeks.

Whose flares did you go with? It seems limited now that Racing Lifestyle is out of the ring

The miata has the engine harness and body harness as one unit. I stripped it down to just the body harness, and then used the F-Body engine harness separately. It's a simple swap so far as wiring goes.

I consider Dark a friend. We have communicated outside of this thread regarding the build, as well. My comment was written as a friendly jab (in that context) not as a "turdball comment."

Not part it out per say, but you could take it off my hands for... oh i will say 30k.

Nah, I just had a lot of my equipment stolen. Mainly not having a welder is setting me back. I still have a little body work to do, but the only thing i really need to order still is the driveshaft. Looks like i am going to have everything working perfectly and not being able to go anywhere because of that. haha

I really need to post up some photos sometime.

Just noticed your location. I'm a USM grad myself and still have friends in H'burg. Saw another V8 Miata for sale on eBay recently from H'burg. Yours?

The guy lives off of Hardy (down around Stevens Dr).

Anyway, good luck with your build!

I see that you are going to use a TII rear end. I have a hot tip for you. Call around to various junk yards and try to find an early, boxy (1988) Mazda 929 with a manual transmission. Those cars used the same 8" ring gear as the TIIs. The differentials can be swapped. You will have to use the carrier from the 929 rear and install it into the TII housing. You will also need to swap the TII diff into the 929 carrier so you retain the locking differential. Why would you do all this? Well the 5 spd 929s had 3.73 gears, which will work way better than the TII gears. This is not all theory. I built this combination of parts to use in my RX7, but neded up doing something different. I sold the rear to a guy in California and its in a 1UZFE powered Miate, as we speak.

Look through these pictures:

http://picasaweb.google.com/alaivins/miata#

You can see how nicely the TII with the 929 carrier fits in a Miata. Way better than the long nose TII carrier.

Good luck!

Andrew

Nice to see you on here Andrew!

I just setup my rear end today with the torsen differential. If you are looking for a differential, find one with bearings already on it. They are 65 apiece from the dealer and 43.99 apiece from O'Reilly Auto parts.

I've been following this for a long time. Tell me more about the seam welding you did. I'm in the process of welding mine.

Seam welding is just to strengthen the chassis by adding more contact area where 2 pieces of metal meet. I should have kept going on mine, but i got sidetracked and never went back to it. I'm going to start getting another chassis ready after this one is finished, and i will be doing a lot more seam welding. One of the main areas to focus on is the seams around the door jambs. I started up front with the intent to move to the back, but never did. Also, prep work is key and the most time consuming. It took me a day to get the front cleaned up around the seams enough to get some decent welds, and only a couple hours to actually weld it up.

More updates coming soon i promise. I have another hood getting ready, radiator in the car, front end almost finished up, brace made for differential, etc.

Right about the time & prep but, well worth it in end resulting quality appearances and strength.

The Miata was designed on a Cray Super-computer and has over 4000 engineered stress points, so care when cutting / eliminating is well advised.
