Very nice buildup. I dont think $3K is unreasonable at all if you do much of the work yourself. Many of us do not have $10K to spend on something like this, myself included. I hope to have around $10K in my 63 wagon when I'm finished with it. Slowly adding to it to get to that amount. My dream is an LSx engine and tranny but who knows if that will ever fit in the budget.

3k is definitely reasonable... unfortunately buying an engine at a salvage yard here in new york that says "LS" will cost you $2,500 for just the engine (no wiring harness, ecu, or tranny included), which is why I decided to go with an LQ4. Most salvage yards just see them as junk motors and are willing to part with one for $800-$900, which is definitely affordable. I wish There was someone in the area who had one for cheaper they were willing to get rid of. The build can be done for a reasonable amount, $3-4k. Which if you were to buy a crate engine from yearone.com - say a 350 chevy making 400hp / 400trq would cost you $2995 + Shipping - let's say $3,500. Not to mention you would have to run 93 octane all the time and only get 10 MPG, if that. EFI motors are more efficient. The one problem I had getting over was the value of destroying a matching numbers car... but I got over that once I realized that this isnt a car that I'm getting rid of... more of a car to hand down to my child (dont have any yet or plan to any time soon), when they are old enough.

Building a car is a hobby... it takes time, passion, and above all else should be fun!

My Dad did his 64 but swapped in a LT1/4L60E. Made for a great swap so yours ought to be nice as well. Good luck on yours.

just finished a 66 impala for a friend of mine. a lq9 with a 4L60 trans. this was an easy job. lots of space to work on, used Camaro headers.

On an additional side note... I was reading Car Craft - I really should subscribe rather than dish out $4.00 a copy every issue at Barnes and Knobles - and I absolutely fell in love with the featured GTO - Page 78-81 May 2009. The color was amazing.... It's BMW Slate Grey...

Pick up the magazine yourself, if not here is a a HORRIBLE picture of the car I found on Horsepowerconnection.com




It looks 1,000,000x better in the magazine of course.... I might rip the color off of him since I love it so much.

yeah , me and my turtle friend are doing the conversion with some help from a sloth.if i can help i will. hopefully they stay on the car till finished, old cars in body shops around here usually become work benches.if im in that neck of the woods ill stop by , thanks, JOHN

Maybe we can meet up one day... dont know how far you are from queens but we are having quite a few car meets over here... all classic cars... I would say about 50 cars on a bad night... dont know how many will show up the first couple of weeks though... its every saturday night. it was in greenpoint and jewel street but now its going to be at the stop and shop on myrtle ave. you should definitely pass by sometime... If you guys are willing to do the swap, ive seen their/your work... its pretty amazing.. I dont mind throwing a few bucks your way... I just dont have the room to do it myself unfortunately.

Another $220.00 down the drain (they wont charge me for the parts on back order until they ship out)... notice whats on the bottom of that list lol... LS1 Mounts and plates... Hope they work, if they don't, ill just order some S&P ones... although I believe these are from S & P, but they are sold through Classic Industries...

So current Total invested into the ls1 swap - 69.95 + Shipping lol lmfao. I can't wait to get her back so I can start ordering parts.

Trying to price LQ4's in the area, Found a couple for $900 w/o wiring harness and 45k miles from Chevy 1500s... Might pick one up and just order an Ebay Wiring harness just to stick with the budget.

Are you doing thw wiring harness yourself? From my little bit of reading on here either do it yourself or get a reputable place to do it. I use eBay for all kinds of stuff, but not sure I would use them for a reworked harness, heard some horror stories of trying to track down ones done incorrectly.

I have to find the name of the company but they dont only sell things on ebay... A wiring Harness/ Programmed ECU combo is like $800.00 which will bring me over budget, however, I will avoid headaches in the long-run. To be honest I dont have the patience to sit there are remove wires myself (Which is why I am trying not to pick up one from a junk yard)... I'm more of a plug and play kind of guy.

On a side note - my goal is $3,000 for the swap to have her running and reliable - without cutting corners.

Just saw the car for the first time in a couple of weeks since I have been out of town. Keep in mind that I left this car in the body shop back in February, so I'm a little ticked that she isn't painted yet... let alone in any stage to be painted.... It did however work in my favor though. After seeing how bad the condition was of the trunk pan, I found a dealer here in New York who had the reproduction tub for $100.00 - local pickup only. I'll take pics of it tomorrow. I also ordered the ring that goes around the tub and I have to pick up the body braces as well.... also seriously considering just biting the bullet and ordering the floor pans for the left and right sides as well. The Car is being painted 2008-2009 BMW M3 Space Grey Metallic -

Hmm... other than that I've just been shopping around for the most cost efficient methods for this swap... sigh... I wish I was driving her around already.

4got to mention lets hope salvage yards everywhere continue to overlook
lq4's, lq9's lm7's and anything else that they think are'nt part of the ls family
i've heard "oh you got the truck motor" ........ yes i do buddy; how'd you know ?
