Default Help please.

I have found a lot of great info on here but after searching and reading posts I haven't found all of what I need.

I am working on a 75 K20 4x4 and swapping into it a 08 4.8 from a Tahoe with dbw. I have the ecm pin out to work with but I am also looking for the pin out on the plug for the under dash fuse panel, and firewall plug, also needed is the pin out for a stock gauge cluster 06 silverado.

I have been thought it with the meter and answered lots of my questions, just not enough to make things work.

Go to alldatadiy.com I use it for all my swaps. It's cheap to get a membership and you can get all the oem schematics with the pin-outs for all the connectors you need.

im in the process of swapping an 05 l33 into a bel air which already had the th400 trans and was wondering what exactly i need to make it work, im rebuilding the motor now before i drop it in. you didn't mention the cost of rebuilding when you wrote this up haha. also when it comes to rebuilding these motors what kind of clearances are exceptable? my engine has 160k on it so im definitely replacing all of the bearings, seals. ans piston rings. but in your opinion should i replace the pistons as well? im trying to keep this as cheap as i can but i don't want to build a piece of garbage either. im putting an ls1 cam and intake on it as well as a set of comp beehive springs. the motor i got came with the harness which i modified myself and all of the accesories so i saved a little there. what kind of power can i expect from this engine? i plan on putting bosch 36# injectors on it but you mentioned the plugs were different from the truck to car harness? great write up btw, any more info would be much appreciated

I am in need of the stock cluster pin out for the 08 cluster I am putting in my 75 to go with the 08 4.8l, the wiring on the 75 is no problem. I have the engine harness maped out for the 08 but not the firewall connector. I have the stock fuse plug all done now too just need to make a spot to mount the ecm and new fuses under the hood.

I am looking into alldata now, it seems the spot I keep getting turned to. I just heard reading the diagrams there can be a bit fun.

Another question is what is done with the power steering line? my stock one isn't correct and the stock one from the 08 I have been told will not go into the gear box of my 75. I have found "universal" kits online but I'm not sure it's really "universal" if you know what I mean.

Default Help with a LS1 swap?

Would really like to get so info on my swap, I'm doing a 03 truck LS1 engine swap into a 79 Firebird and I really need so help. So please hit me up.

If none of these fit you may be left going to an aftermarket vendor that makes swap headers, or having a set made. Obviously the cost can vary greatly here.

The other thing to keep in mind is the oil pan. The LS engines came with many differents pans. The truck pans mimick old school SBC style but hang kinda low. The F-body pans are lower profile but extend further forward. Research will have to be done for your application.

The best part about the internet is that almost any combination you can think of for any swap has been done or tried, so a little research can go a long way towards planning your swap.

I tried to use accurate pricing for this writeup. Obviously some parts can be found cheaper or more expensive, these are just my findings. If you have trouble locating a part in the same price range, feel free to contact me for help.

Good luck guys and don't get discouraged, these swaps are not that hard and they are great when finished.

65impalass, I am working on a 65 Impala ss myself. Was reading through this old thread and found your question interesting for obvious reasons. Did you complete an LS swap into your 65?

Default Starter to Flywheel Alignment Question...

[QUOTE=MeanYellowZ;11170505]I made this writeup for another site after some guys were asking me questions and I figured it might do some new swappers some good on here:

Alright, I had a handful of guys wanting more info on how to swap in an LS-series of engine on a limited budget....

The next item to consider is what transmission you plan on running. The LS engines will work with any older GM trans with some considerations. TH350s/ 700R4s/ TH400s work by using a GM part as a flexplate spacer and bolts to place the flexplate at the proper spacing, and this part provides a place for the converter snout to engage, using the original converter.

Question - By using the required spacer between the crank and flywheel you end up pushing the flywheel back (away) from the starter. So, when you engage the starter little to no teeth will engage, correct? How do you get around this?

The part in question is put on the crank after the flywheel is, not before.

I am in Australia, and most of our engines are 5.7 LS1. They came in our local GMH cars from 1999. Usually with the 4L60E, or 6 speed manual. 2005 onwards we got the 6.0 Gen4.

I have a 5.7 LS1/4L60E in my 1978 C20 pickup, and to keep my costs down, I bought a whole wrecked car to get all the bits I needed. Worked out way cheaper than buying the engine and trans, and all other parts.
You people are lucky to have a greater amount of vehicles to pick parts from.
All the info provided on this thread, and this forum will make it a lot easier for anyone doing a conversion. Great read.
