My factory v6 cluster tach is still off. I had it tuned by wait4meperformance but i guess they didnt get it right. At idle It shows 1200rpm when i am turning 730rpm, when cruisimg at 2300rpm according to the pcm my gauge reads 3300rpm. Is there a resistor or something i can do ?

Ya unless you have hptuners or plan on getting it tuned, at which point tell them to change it. This is just my opinion, you may want to slave in another tach right off the computer and try that.

ttt... Anyone know what i would need to tune it for ? The tachometer is a stock v6 tach. Like i said the rpms are off like above. I talked to the tuner and they said it was set up for 4cyl mode.
You can use tunning software to adjust the number of pulses per crank revolution, but I don't think you can get the right pulse count to properly run a V6 tach. But. before you spend money for a V8 cluster, I'd check with who tuned your PCM.

I beleive the output signal from the PCM can only be set at 1,2,or 4 pulses per revolution. If that's right then ou will have to get a V8 cluster from a 97.
TO be sure I'd post this in the PCM programing section. I'm sure someone would know for sure there.

can`t speak for EFILive, but I just opened HPT and I can set my tach signal anywhere between 0 and 65535.........I have no idea why I would want it at 65535 but the normal pulse outputs are all in that range so

Good luck whichever way you go though.

You might be able to get an answer here, but Ré actually had the best suggestion for ya...
One other thing that I thought of - it might be easiest to just get an aftermarket tach & set it to 4-cyl mode. (IDEALLY, you'd have someone local who could let you use/borrow theirs for just long enough to test the output signal so you could know for sure.)

You can mathmatically figure out the correct pulse width and calculate the tach resolution for HPT, I just need to know trhe input pulse for the v6 cluster. lsxyj on this site has a LS1 cluster he isnt doing anything with, maybe that would help you.
If you want an easy solution and don't mind spending $80 you can use the Dakota Digital SGI-8. I used one. It is simple to install and it works. It will convert the 4 cylinder signal to drive a 6 cylinder tach.
