Default LQ4 in 68 chevelle clear stock hood

It should fit, mine is a 70, but the hood line should be very similar. When I mocked an LQ9 on mine it looked like it fit. I was planning to use the stock truck intake at first but now I am going for a GMPP single plane intake and an Edelbrock elbow on my car, Although I do not worry about hood clearance, I have a 4" cowl hood.

i have a 69, same thing really, with an LQ4 and hooker mounts/headers, edelbroock vic jr intake, 4l80e-i use a procharger with a 4" hat that sits on top of the carb-although i have a 2" steel cowl hood now, i trial fit a SS hood at one time, and believe it would have cleared-are you using FI or carb? truck FI or LS1/6?
i have a car and truck FI unit laying around, i could meas them against mine and tell you if it would clear-car FI would clear no problem

Worst case scenario you will have to trim the inner support for the alternator, but thats it.

Remember if you go with a 80e you need to cut the tunel. 60e can stay stock.

I am using a stock x member. cut the bracket and fliped it and reweld.

Is that another velle in the back?????

yeah its my 72 chevelle it was my first car in high school, i was 16 I still love that car but it needs work I will start on that when my 68 chevelle is done. I have the 80e but,im already worried about how hard it's going to be to install I hope i can do the install myself but fuel injection and computer control is all new to me.I was told you can buy a cross member for the 68-72 to use the 80e but i can't find where to buy it.the guy who bought the 454 is picking it up tomorrow.Your 71 chevelle looks great I love the 71-72 I think they look better than the 68 but i love all chevelles from 64-72.

It was nice talking with you yesterday.

here is the company for the trans mount

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/gf...ssmembers_.htm

not sure if this will fit but ebay has this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160324726351

I will also recommend to take a look at Pro-touring.com

Their is a lot of useful information and really great cars and builds. A bit on the high end but you can get a lot for tricks of the trade.

i didnt have to cut anything when i installed the trans, a little hammering hear and there-i have a plastic 4l80e, made it easier to mock up, as an empty case would be-i took a stock x-member, cut the mount off, moved the x-mem under the rear tailhousing (close, but clears) and then welded the mount back on-i can just rem the x-mem, close, but it comes out, and kept the same driveline angle as the 400-i think a lot has to do with the engine adapters you use-i also had a late model trans, rear return line, so i welded a 90 deg fitting on it to clear the floor-still have to yank out the x-mem and sandblast & paint
i orig tried a man kit on the trans, but went to a compushift controller, im computer stupid and it was idiot proof, lol
