Default Caprice 9c1 LS6 conversion

Greetings, I'm a long time lurker.

My conversion started in September with a retired 95 Caprice police (9c1) cruiser. I removed the tired LT1 engine and inserted a 2002 LS6 Corvette engine in its place.

Wiring Harness: I completed this task myself using the pinouts, many telephone calls to Roger (tooblue), and a lot of Captain and Coke. I have over 100 hours invested but I'm glad I did it because I learned a ton of stuff about these engines. By integrating my B-body wiring harness over to the LS6 wiring harness, I was able to keep my gauges functioning!!! I placed the PCM in the stock location so wire routing and wire lengthening took a lot of time.

Cross member: A simple modification to the stock cross member enabled me to keep this mod looking like a factory install.

ABS Computer: I made a new bracket and slid it over slightly making this mod almost seamless.

Frame Mod: I slight frame modification was needed on the passenger side infront of the upper control arm in order to allow the A/C lines to clear the frame. This was simple using a plasma cutter and a small wire feed welder.

PCM: I mounted it in the stock location using a PCM holder out of a 2002 S10 Blazer.

Thermostat housing: A straight one from S&P was purchased allowing me to simply flip flop the radiator hoses. The upper LT1 hose became the lower LS6 hose and the lower LT1 hose became the upper LS6 hose.

Engine mounts: S&P
Headers: S&P

A simple 224 cam was installed with new springs and pushrods were the only engine mods. A dyno tune last week resulted in 376hp/385 tq. Drag stip times are soon to come. I'm hoping for low 13s. She pulls and pulls and pulls!

I'm very happy with this modification and I'll be driving it soon on the Hot Rod Power Tour in June.

4L65E transmission
3.73 Detroit Trutrack rear end.
3600 stall.

Thanks for the nice comment. My overall goal was to keep it clean while striving for the factory installed look. I used the oil cooler lines from a 2007 GMC and had a Hydralic Line Company mate my external oil cooler fittings to the GMC hard lines. This allowed me to keep all functionality of my external oil cooler on my retired cruiser.

Looks like you did a really nice job, nice power numbers too.

Do you have a picture of the frame modification you did for the AC lines?

This whale weighs in at 4100 lbs. My plan is to remake the pushbars out of aluminum to cut another 30 pounds of steel off the front. But I have to face the fact, she is always going to be a bit on the chubby side. That's okay, she's big boned and I like her that way.

Good Job man! I was actually looking for your build thread on ISSF and couldn't find it. Looks good under there. I need to get some Fuel Rail covers though, hide some of that wiring. lol.
