Default 6.0L vs. 5.3L

can you get as much power out of a 5.3 LQ4, as you can with a 6.0 LQ4 with similar mods (heads. cam, intake)? and do they sound as good? may be a dumb question, but i'm a newbie.

its a simple factor of displacement. given the proportions are the same, you will have more power from 364 cu.in. than you will from 325 cu.in. dependin on the car and how much power you want out of it, it may be more economical to do the 5.3L (lm7 for rwd, lm4 for fwd) as you could get about 400-420rwhp out of it through a manual. the 6.0L could make 500-520rwhp through a manual. given perfect setups on each. you can run bigger heads and cam on the 6.0 obviously

what he said. 40ci is good bit more to work withm, but the bigger benefit is the larger bore allowing the heads to work better by unshrouding the valves, or to allow a bigger head...

6.0 will always make more hp with equivalent mods, same effort to swap in either.

Its not just displacement, the Lq4 has larger cylinder heads, which are essentially the same heads used on the ls6 and ls2, but with larger combustion chambers to lower the compression into the 9.5:1 range. That is another reason they make more power. A 5.3 will closely match a LS1 5.7 mod for mod, but a 6.0 will take the cake every time with those 317 heads

well that answers that question. thanks guys. my next question is with the 6.0, if i want around 500hp out of it, what should i do about heads? should i rework the stock heads or get a new set? looking for the best bang for my buck here. ive heard different things about milling the stocks and other things, what exactly would i need to do? the motor is going in a older truck and i want it to be streetable

I'm looking at getting a lm7 and stroking it out to 383ci. Can I just buy a stroker for a regular ls1?

Terrible question....

"What is the best cam for my combination" is the correct question.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that better heads can also be swapped onto 6.0s ---> L92. They will not fit the 5.3's (or LS1's) smaller bore.

5.3s are great, they make good power, are cheap and plentiful. But ultimately the 6.0 with its bigger bore and better stock heads (and heads that fit it) is the winner on power.

That said the 5.3 can likely make enough power to impress you.

You don't want to go cheap. You spend cheap, you get cheap. Don't cheap yourself out.

what heads will fit the 5.3? I was going to use some lq9 or l92 heads on mine. Since bore was mentioned, I'm guessing ls1 or ls6 heads will fit?
