Default question on 5.3

How hard would it be to get a 5.3 in a 3000# car to run 9's? the 5.3's are found for so cheap I was thinking of running one, but don't know what the max is that I could get one to run

i still cant decide on which motor to run. i will be on a strict budget for this build, and I am wanting to go with a carb setup. how much spray can a stock bottom end 5.3 hold and still continue to make passes?

spend on susp. and rear end. th350 and 4k stall. manual steering and udp.
a healthy 150-200 hit with race. and a some hiflow headers and exhaust.
will make for strong runner, but idk about 9's

that is what is making it hard for me to decide on which set up to go with. i thought about the turbo route but dang that would be nearly 5-6k for a decent set-up

what is the cost of doing that turbo set-up? would it work well using the truck manifolds flipped around? money's tight with a 13 month old running around the house

My 5.3 with a mild cam and good heads made >400 RWHP N/A (though a T56).

Now, with a turbo on the same setup and 6-7 lbs of boost (intercooled) I ran 122 mph in the 1/4, on a first time ever test pass, picking up over 30 mph on the back half. Car should go 127-128 mph on the same boost if I get it better sorted.

5.3 is a great platform.

That should be good for mid 10s at least. People in full weight F-Bodies/Corvettes are running 10s with that much power without a crazy suspension setup. Hell I saw a mean suspension full weight Camaro pull a 10.9x cam only(400 whp). I can see a nicely set up bolt on+200 shot 5.3 running a very very high 9 in a 2900 lbs car.
