Default Ls1 into 66' Chevelle

Hey guys i'm pulling my Ls1 out of my 98 Z28 to putting in a Ls3. So with the Ls1 laying around i have decided to put it in my 66' Chevelle.
I am having a hard time finding headers and motor mounts for the swap so i would like some help finding these items. Also in summit they have the painless wiring kit for Ls1's for $595 has anyone used this? If so how did you like it? I would also like to know if you guys think i should keep the M22 4speed in the car or put a TH400 in it and what do you guys think the price difference would be between the two behind the Ls1.
Also does someone make a fuel pump and wiring kit for a plug and play set-up?

oh yeah. rockauto.com will have a stock style fuel tank with a fuel injection setup already in it for about $450. brp has some really nice headers for your car also. you will probably want to use their engine/trans mount kit to match up with their hedders. current performance will have a cheap, newer style fuse box kit for it as well. what do you plan on doing with the car, race, drive ,show? id find a good deal on a 6speed! you cant go wrong there. lets see some pics of it!

No pictures yet, but soon give me sometime to order some parts. As far as what i'm going to do with the car, I'm putting this car together because my Camaro has no back seats or belts and i have a 6 month old daughter and my wife that miss going to carshows with me and her dad wants to drive it.. I hope the Trex cam is not to much for them

I'm doing the same LS1 swap in my 66. My LS came from a 02 Camaro. There are many options and each has it's pros/cons. Deciding between the pros/cons was probably the biggest challenge for me so far. There isn't one perfect kit in my opinion.

I'm trying to use the BRP style Gen I motor mounts, the stock f-body oil pan, and a 4L60E. I think my setup is closest to Pist0lpete's setup (thanks btw!) I did the wiring myself which i'm done with but not yet tested. Took longer than I thought but I decided to retrofit a GM style fuse block from a Cavalier. Everything you need is in the sticky posts up top. Seems like the old A-body swaps is probably one of the most well documented.

Here's a pic of the mount adapters I made this wknd. The 9/16 hole seems a bit big but I just follow the drawings in the FAQs. I also added a countersunk M10 hole which wasn't in the drawing. We'll see i guess...

Well Im doing a 5.3 in my 64. It has been pretty straight forward so far. I have come up against some road blocks but it has been simple fixes so far. I will be getting A LOT done in the next two weeks as Im off for the summer (teacher) and my wife is working those two weeks. If you would like to follow what I have done, it is very close except the engine itself. The mechanicals are very close except the accessory drive, and intake.

Here is what I have so far. I will be updating the writup on wednesday with more tech. and more pictures.

One question i have right now is should i go with a carb set-up or my Ls6 i have now? How bad is the difference of fuel mpg between the two? And which one do you guys get the wow factor on at carshows?

that IS the big question. im going to install it as a fuel injected motor, but i think a carbed motor would look perfect in one of these cars! i dont know!

I also vote for EFI. Don't get me wrong I love my carbed small block, but reliability and fuel economy are starting to factor into my thoughts.

I'm an EFI fan too. You can dress it up to get the wow factor even easier than with a carb. Most motors in that vintage car have a carb, not many have front throttle body EFI. That Painless harness may not work on your 98, along with the 97 Corvette LS1s they are the oddballs harness wise. I would call Painless to make sure. Another good person to check with for harnesses is John at Speartech.

Should be a sweet swap, good luck

Pat

My vote is for EFI, i think the wow factor will be less ... well ... wow when you've a carb'd ls in an original car'b car. That car wasnt offered with fuel injection, which is the exact reason that it seems to wow me at a show. Im staying with the fuel injection in my swap
