Default carbed 5.3 made it to the track

I have been to the track several times and have been fighting with some issues. I finally got it figured out and went 1/8 mile racing the other night. The best pass i got out of it was an 8.0 at 89mph with a 1.96 sixty foot. The track was in terrible shape (i was pulling low 1.8's last time i was at the track). Once i get back to the 1/4 mile im hoping for a low 12 after some tuning (its running way rich) and a good short time....an 11 second pass would make me exremely happy and i dont think its out of the question.

Not bad for a 300 dollar junk yard motor.

cool...what converter? and you using the RPM intake? Headers or Manifolds?

I was getting 7.9-7.8 in the 1/8 running 12.00@115 in the 1/4 with 1.8 60ft. But I had a 5.7 and 3.36 rear gears

That's impressive for a budget ( $300.00 motor?? ) build. A friend and I are thinking of doing something similiar with his '51 Ford pickup. Would you care to divulge the cam specs? Also, what intake and the race weight? And by the way...great job! Ron

Pretty nice results. Seeing your guys' numbers makes me more confident about my setup.
5.3l stock heads
TSP224r 112lsa (.581/.581)
PAC 1218 springs
TR 7.4 pushrods
1.75" Stainless Works LT headers/Hooker catback
Proform 750dp
Victor Jr/MSD 6010

TH350
3600 stall
LS1 3.23 posi rear
full Spohn suspension

It's awesome to finally see people realizing the potential of the 5.3.

Horsepwraddict - What's your carb setup? Jets/PV/squirters/accel pump? Did you use the MSD 6010? Care to share your timing/MAP curves?

notice in my first post i mentioned after some tuning'. In an effort to figure out why i was breaking up at high rpm i was chasing down what i thought was a fuel issue. That last pass i ended up with no power valves and 86 jets in both metering blocks...which is obviously waaayyy rich. Their is an absolute ton left in it with the right a/f. When i get it tuned now that i figured out my problem (it wasn't fuel related) i will get back to you...along with new times which are hopefully much better.

I use the MSD 6010. As far as timing goes, i have have it locked out at 29* from idle all the way up. I dont run any vacum advance.

went up again today and get some new times. I was launching around 2000 rpms off te foot brake as my converter has proven to be fairly tight.

Best run

11.99
114 mph
1.88 sixty foot

best mph i had was 114.5. of the four runs i made all had MPH between 113 and 114.5

It was still in the 90's with high humidity. With good weather i think its a consistently high 11 second truck
