Default Single Turbo Ls1 in a 1997 wrangler

Currently I'm building a 1997 Jeep wrangler with a Ls1/4l60e out of a 98 Camaro. I have plenty of room for a single turbo setup in front of the engine and for a front mount intercooler in front of the new aluminum radiator in the grill. I also can mount the turbo high or low with a good amount of room in the engine bay. I'm going to try to post pis of how much space I have.

Previously I had a fresh Ford 302 c6 tranny and ford transfer case and It sucked, Constantly had to screw with the 4 barrel and never quite got all the ponies out of it that i could with having a carb. Jeep came from PA. and had heavy heavy heavy salt rust so I decided to pull the body off, sand blast and paint the frame and treat any rust I found. while doing the engine swap to a LS1.

So far just to do the Engine sway I have had to change the fuel pump to a Walbro 255, "stock Psi was internally regulated @ 49 psi", All new engine mounts, take the tail shaft off the 4l60e and change the output shaft to a short 4x4 one. New exhaust, Radiator, Fuel lines, Fuel regulator, tubing for a intake and Air filter, Adapt the LS wiring harness to the stock Jeep one, new radiator hoses, replaced all brake line with stainless ones.

Also to mention, I re undercoated the entire underside of the body, cut the radiator shell for my ebay front mount, Core size is 23 x 12 x 3 hopefully it will flow enough cfm and have enough surface area to work well.

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you chose a turbo over a supercharger which would have no lag for low-speed offroading? Or do you have a really low transfer case so the engine will be revving pretty high?

I'd like to make around 500 - 525 HP with around 7 psi with Water Meth Injection @ the crank, not exactly sure what I expect to loose through the drive train.

Most of the offroading I do isn't really "rock Crawling" because most of Maryland doesn't have large natural rock formations except several hours north of were I am on the border Of PA. and WV. Where I live I've got rolling hills, lots of trails, fields to fly through and some mud. I've not a huge fan of supercharging unless it's on a boat, your always limited to how fast your crank can turn and always depend on a belt. They work great where your worried about breaking drive train or for good solid low end torque, but I prefer on the fly boost changes, and a turbo pulling you back in your seat.

Default Updates !!!!!

So far I have mounted my fuel tank bulkheads along with a plate I designed to with with the stock unit, need a few more nylon washers and to seal it all up. Next I've went through my complete wiring harness and made it a stand alone harness and ready to wire up in the jeep and rewrap, third I'm making some progress on my turbo manifold and cross over tube, they need to be modified and welded some more. The upper portion of the turbo manifold to clear the shock tower

My single turbo stock LS1 makes 525 at the wheels with a blue Tial spring in the gate. That is with half race gas and half premium and no methanol injection. It is about 15-20HP less with the timing dialed back to just run premium pump gas (I did this when race gas was $7 a gallon here)

I think your HP estimate is a little low - you will be pleasantly surprised at the power it will make. That short wheelbase Jeep will be a handful.

The turbo-lag thing is bogus. If your turbo is sized correctly you will have no noticable lag and gobs of torque almost everywhere.

how much timing do you think I should be running with Premium gas, 6.8 Psi on the waste gate spring and water/meth injection ? Down the road I plan to extend the wheelbase some with a lift.

OMG one of my favorite swaps ever! Have you ever saw the TJ Brute conversions? i started a thread here but it didnt last long lol. Anyway, this is on my list! How the hell did you figure out that harness? Electrical scares the $hit outa me, i really need to educate myself in that department. Before i do a TJ, i would love to do an LS1 in my 96 Zj, you think you could do a wiring harness for that? Just curious lol!

oil pan cleaned and tapped for -4 feed and -10 return along with removed oil level sensor. Next I cleaned the alt bracket, installed a new alt. and converted it to be self exciting. So now when it spins it charges unlike the stock camaro setup.

Cool build. I am just finishing a 05 LS6 into my 97 wrangler.

Boy, you got that mounted low in the frame rails. Looks good so far

Can you explain how you made the Alt self exciting?
