It has been done, but why?..

You would need to convert or adapte to something like a early 4th gen F-Body setup (93-97, for a LT1 Gen II engine) for both the Engine mounts and frame/K-Member stands. The LT1 headers might/should work as long as the port configuration matches and you place the engine is the correct location.

You might try looking at a aftermarket K-member (Spohn ?).

why? because we have a complete 406 and the car is a roller, ideally we would like to use a lsx but we have what we have. so LT1 stuff should work? thanks for the info.

Why not just do a motor plate. They are simple with the old school stuff!

Hard to believe there is much of an aftermarket for what you are doing.

i think either BMR and UMI make a K member to mount Gen 1 engines into 4th gens. I would only use motor plates for a race car because they would vibrate your brains out on the street.

so was the car originally equipped with a ls motor? or its a v6.?
if it was previously a ls car, then it makes more sense to sell the sbc and get a nother ls motor. u will spend more trying to find good lt headers that dont cost fortune that fit correct, along with the mounts, etc.
if its alredy got the ls wiring, it will all just plug up and run with a ls in place

yes i understand it would be easyier just to get a ls motor in it, but this is a budget build, the car is a STEAL for what it has, and we have a great working proven motor and trans combo that will put this car right where we need it to be. i can make headers, fab a motor plate mount ect. just wondering if there was anything i could get from the aftermarket to simplify things for myself. Ive been a g body guy for 12 years and im just now getting involved in the ls stuff. i have a supercharged ls powered 81 malibu, and a stocker 1998 ls camaro. just looking for some info.

This shouldn't be a hard swap at all. Get your self a 93-97 k member from whatever source you can find it on, and then it will bolt right in. You will have clearance issues with the distributor to the firewall and cowl and also with the intake you choose unless you convert an lt1 intake to work on a gen 1 sbc. Then you could run an lt1 cold air intake setup just like normal.

Headers will be easy as well since they are the same as lt1 headers. Just find a set of larger long tubes (not sure who makes headers larger than 1 3/4 tho) and you will be fine. Transmission mounts in the same spot as well so just buy the appropriate crossmember for it.

wow never thought of the distributor issue, but now that you said it it makes sense. i guess the guys running this setup do all have front mount distributors now that i think of it, car owner says "its set up for a carb" guess a call is in order. thanks for the help.

You can run a distributor without an issue. You will have to trim some of the cowl, but if my car can squeeze in a BBC, the SBC should go no problem.
