Default My LQ4 Fox build

I meant to start this when I started the project, but just kept lurking and plugging in useful information from time to time. This my 88 GT. I've had the car since I was 16 so it has some sentimental value. It started it's life with me totaled. I pieced it back together and drove it for a couple of years. Then I added a cam, and most of the bolt ons. It was a fun street car. I eventually ran into some ignition issues and I lost interest in it. I bought a 99 Z28, added cam, bolt ons, and a 150 shot. I loved the way that car ran, but enjoyed driving the mustang more. The fox platform just appealed to me more. So I decided to sell the camaro and swap the mustang. So after 3+ years in the barn I drug it back out. Here is it back when it was running

Here's what it looked like when I pulled it out of the barn

Sitting really takes it's toll on a car, The paint had cracked up, a few rust spots popped up, mice had laid claim to many parts of the car. I drug it up to my dad's place to tear it apart. Not only was I going to swap it, I also fixed the bent up basket on the front.

decided we'd sit the doghouse around a tree fiddy

got the bumper support off, inner fenders off, and got the engine and wiring all disconnected.

You can see how smashed up the core support was

The car is getting pretty close here. Fuel system is done, cooling system is done aside from some clamps and an overflow. I was absolutely amazed how well the fbody radiator fits in the car. I only had to notch one hold down for the radiator cap to clear, other than that it was almost the same dimensions as the mustang. I dropped the tank, pulled the pump, cut off the tubes and made a mechanical pickup with bigger fuel supply and return. My driveshaft was the correct length, and I'm not sure if I have a different length tailshaft than others, but with a conversion u joint, the stock 5.0 driveshaft worked fine.

All that is left to get it running is a little wiring, put fluids in it, and get a tune.

Here are some dusty pics. You can see the mess of wires on the driver side is what is being finished up

And now how it currently sits, with exhaust and all the body components back on it. Hoping the rain holds off today so I can do some tuning.

I just crammed 18 months into a handful of posts, if you have any questions please feel free to ask

Thanks

Awesome job, I'm sure you will be happy when you get to drive it. Also which headers did you use for the swap, and did you have to do any modifying to get them to clear?

I used 351 swap headers. I had to modify my steering shaft to get the headers to clear the rag joint. I also had to use different plug wires on a couple cylinders due to clearance with the primaries

None of the videos are working for me and I REALLY want to see them! There are more and more people doing this swap and I'll be one of them soon. Please fix the videos and keep us updated.

Good Luck!!!

I drove it a few times before it got cold. When spring rolls in I need to do some more tuning, but it's pretty much completely drivable

How is it? Is it really responsive. Does it seem faster than a 5.0?

Um, yes. It would destroy the 5.0 that was in it

Did you use the truck front accessories and did you have problems with the alternator clearing?

Disregard I just saw your post in another thread. Now I am pissed because there was a powersteering/alternator set up at the junk yard that I passed up and is now gone.
