What brand muffler do you run with the aluminum exhaust and if you dont mine what size exhaust was it? (3-3-1/2"?)
Looks good as usual and hope it goes well for you

I had 3" alum with vibrant alum mufflers and it worked good sounded good. Switched to 3.5 and vibrant alum and it was horrible. Wait worse that that. So I put v bands on and put dynomax bullets. The 3.5 didn't get a fair shake because the converter was banged up. With the new engine 2' to 2 1/8" the 3.5 should shine.

I am having problems with the new engine getting the mains where I want them. Hope I can get it straightened out by the weekend or Monday.

Did the 3.5 exh kill the power,or was it a noise issue?
Were the oldcoolectors 3.5 in as well,or were they smaller?
Ive seen weird stuff when going down or up in exh size relative to collector sizes

I went through the same thing on my aluminum block . i should have left the iron block in it as they seem to be on the tighter side of the specs ,plus the power difference in a N/A car is a benefit as well
Oh well, water under the bridge i suppose

Its always something thats a pain in the *** on these things for sure
Good Luck

Noise was horrible with the alum mufflers the bullets are much nicer. The power has to be better it was blowing the 3" off the car every pass

Got the crank in tonight. Going to have the rods separated first thing tomorrow and get the pistons, cam, lifters and chain on it. Head gaskets will be here tomorrow so I can get the v/p checked and get the heads on to measure for pushrods. I hope the Pr from last year will work or I am waiting till next week to get it running.

Hey Tim
Have any pics of how much you trimmed rear of hood opening back from windshield or is it top secret ? lol
Also did you run the stepped or straight pan from Allstar and how far down from the cowl does your tbi sit?
Does the pan give any leeway in terms of, if you wanted to run a carb spacer, shear plate, etc,it can move a little say up or down?
Or is it a one and done type of deal?
Thanks

I will have to measure it. I just kept cutting till the engine didnt suck the hood down.

Stepped pan. I have a 4500 base plate on it from k&n . Just trim the sides to follow the hood on the height of the carb and spacers.

Pistons are in. Cam is degreed. Going to check the valve to piston and try and get a pr measurement tomorrow.

Possible it will be running by Monday.

Did you ever run any tbi/carb spacers on this thing to see what it may like?
And if so,did you run it with and without the air pan to quantify any et gains or loses from the pan itself?
Im curious because ,i know how important it is for tyhe pan to be sealed extremey well to help pull air into the pan/carb area,,yet,i didnt want to go to all of the trouble to build a tight fitting air pan, only to add or remove spacers and have to redesign the air pan again is all
Thanks

I never messed with spacers because I would have had to redo the pan.

My 4" hood was .10 faster than the 2" one with the pan sealed on both. Data showed the air temps dropping all the way down the track.

It is really not bad to get the pan to fit the hood nice and tight.

Vs no pan with the hood done correctly the pan will be faster. It took quite a bit of adjusting things to get it really good though.

Driving the car in the rain the water gets sucked in cruising at 50.

Adjusting things? As in trimming the hood back away from the windshield to create a larger area for air to get into the pan,or sealing things up?
I remember hearing word that on the older pro stock trucks, they ran into a condition where upon the launch they would suck the pan dry of air so to speak,so the volume of air available within the pan was a consideration at the time?
or maybe im mind fuc$%ing this too much as well . LOL
Thanks

With the ford motor it would suck the hood down. Then the 418 did it also. Cowl cover and wiper arms triming the hood all made it better. The air bell also makes a difference.

Running and driving.

Few small things to work on this week. Had some fuel fittings leaking so I had to dig in the spare parts and just need to finish mount that stuff.

Going to cut the filter open tomorrow and drive it the rest of the week. Track outing on the 14th.

Filter looked really good.

Found that the fuel press reg was leaking fuel to the vac side and the engine was pulling it in the intake causing the closed loop to freak out and engine to miss. Parts are ordered to fix that.

Worked on my drag week trailer the last two nights. Packed the bearings last night and tonight built the tire holder and gas can holder.
