Default Changing vin in ecu?

Ok, I'm contemplating swapping a 6.0 into my 99 jeep tj.
I'm not concerned about putting it in and making it run.
What I'm worried about is being allowed to drive it. I live in mass and our emissions test know just plugs into the obd port and checks for codes.
I know I can have that covered but it also verifies the vin. What I want to know is can you burn a chrysler vin # into the GM ecu?
If not then I guess I'm stuck with my old tractor motor

No sense going through all the work only to never be able to pass state inspection...
Any help?

I believe that it can be done with EFI Live but not with HP Tuners.

I know you can change it to another GM vin, but what about changing it to a chrysler vin? Does the ecu care what the vin # is or is it just a number it spits back if anyone asks for it?

That was my point. I think with EFI live you can change it to anything you want.

HP tuners uses the VIN for its own licensing.

I'm not sure what the rules of your state are, but I'd just call them and ask them first, and explain what your hoping to do. I know when OH used to have emissions the rule was you could run any motor you wanted provided the motor installed was from a donor that was newer. i.e. you couldn't run a motor out of a 99 in an 02, but you could run an 02 into a 99.

Technically mass sucks and you cant do it as the tj was never offered with a v8. But, there are friendly stations that won't count the cylinders as long as it passes the no codes test.
So long story short, is it technically legal in mass? No.
Will it still pass inspection if the inspector doesn't pop the hood? As long as there are no codes and the vin matches yes

I know that it is possible to change the vin in the ecu.
Just want to know for a fact it can be changed to a chrysler one before I go through all the work on a vehicle that becomes useless in my state if I can't.

Yes, You can put it in, I've even put foreign Vin's in them, but how their scanner will like it is another story, some scanner expect certain characteristics from the PCM according to the VIN. I know the scanners at AutoZone, don't even like the wrong year Vin in the PCM.
EFI Live and Tuner Cat both allow you to put different (wrong) Vins in the PCM, If HP Tuner can do it, its a trick I don't know about

I have a seperate app just to change VIN's

You can run into some issues with custom VIN's
Example: TURBONORTHSTAR001
I have that in as a VIN, but some software packages won't read the PCM because of that.

Did you make the app?

I'd be interested in learning how this works.

No and I have never used it, but I have it.

When I get home I will ID it. I have had it for a few years now, so I can't remember to much about it.
